Opening vob files in VS x8 Ultimate
VS x8 doesn't recognise vob files and Import doesn't work for me either. On the web suggestions to rename the vob files to .mpg doesn't work and using AVS video converter leads to softer less well defined video. Have tried using all options in AVS (AVI MPG DVD...) all too soft to be acceptable.

Hi sloop john b
Welcome to the forums.
Video studio will open Vob files contained in the TS_Folder provided the disc / video is not copy-write protected.
Using Video Studio X8, right click the timeline and choose Import Digital Media.
Browse for the TS-folder

Re: Opening vob files in VS x8 Ultimate
Thanks Trevor. The original video of an amateur choir concert was shot on a videocamera and transferred to a RW DVD by the theatre technician. It is not Copywrite material but the disk is marked as Read Only. Have tried as admin to unset the Read Only but it is refusing to budge - throws an error. So I can't load the VOB's from TS.
I had ripped the files to my HDD and individually the VOB's are not marked Read Only. but to no avail.
Further suggestions welcomed.

Re: Opening vob files in VS x8 Ultimate
When you ripped the files from DVD to HDD did you transfer the Video_TS folder complete.
You do not mention in your last reply whether you had followed Trevors suggestion to use the "Import Digital Media" option - if you do that and then browse to the Video_TS folder and tick the box - see my image below - what happens then ?

Re: Opening vob files in VS x8 Ultimate
Yes I have. The import digital media dialogue opens and shows a file but with a ? against it. The Start button is greyed out.
Am wondering if the use of rw disk is the prob or whether the disk was Finalised and thus Read Only.
Does anyone know if the undoing of Read Only can only be reversed on the original laptop??

Hi
I don’t know why the folder shows with a ? mark.
Have you tried transferring another disc to make sure it does not do this with all discs.
You could try using a free program called DVD Shrink, that seems to open most files.
Take care when installing, these free software sometimes tries to install others, malware etc.

Can you post a picture of exactly what you are seeing? Did you copy the complete Video_TS folder to your hard drive?sloop john b wrote:Yes I have. The import digital media dialogue opens and shows a file but with a ? against it. The Start button is greyed out.

Whether the DVD is Read Only is irrelevant since you are not trying to write anything to the DVD. (In general, all properly authored DVDs are Read Only)

Re: Opening vob files in VS x8 Ultimate
When I have vob's that need acceptance, I first convert them to mpg with VOB2MPG software - then no problems.

Hi
Sorry but I cannot read any details within those images.
If you use Alt+ PrtSc to copy the window it should retain the original quality when you save as jpeg hopefully small enough to attach to your post.
