When I create a vector object with nodes, say on layer 1, I can select the nodes and manipulate them as you would expect. But if I click on another layer, and come back to layer 1, the nodes on the object are no longer editable. The same thing happens if I click Apply using the Pen tool. How can I make an object editable again or keep it editable? I'm having a hard time finding an answer to that question. There MUST be a way.
Thank you so much for your help.

Re: Make vector object editable
I've been very frustrated with vector objects in the past, same sort of problems as you describe. Here are some things I've learned.
When you create a vector object, whether a rectangle, circle, curve, a Vector 1 layer is created and until you leave the object, is highlighted. But note the arrow beside the layer, indicating there are sub-layers. When you click on that you see that the object is actually a sub-layer.
If you make the Vector 1 the active (highlighted) layer with the sub-layers not selected, other objects can be added to that Vector. A number of objects such as lines and text can be within the one Vector.
To edit an object, make sure first of all that it is selected. This means you show the sub-layers and select the one you want. Then, in the object properties toolbar, ensure that the edit mode is selected. For example, if you are using the pen tool in the Mode section the edit, bezier curve, line and freehand icons will be displayed and by default the line tool is usually selected. So, before editing, select the edit mode. Now, you should be able to select the nodes and edit the object. If you have a rectangle and curve in your vector layers and you want to edit the curve you need to select the object (layer) and also select the pen tool. When a node is selected there are edit options available under Object in the menu or by right clicking on the node.
Note that the tools have a "show nodes" box - that needs to be selected.

Thank you so much for your answer, MarkZ.
This is just what I needed. I had never noticed the arrow by the layer. I did not know there were sublayers. When I select a sublayer, I can now select the Edit mode, and IT STAYS SELECTED when I click on the layer! All works like a charm now. This also explains why in the past I ended up with more than one object on a "main" layer, and they all seemed to be the same object, moving as a group when I drag them.
Thank you, again.
