How do I change the quality of video captures on X7?
When I go to "format", all I get is "DVD". When I go to Options, Video Properties, and Template, all I get are DVD templates. The project itself is set for 1920x1080, but I can't get video capture to do anything other than SD resolution. Does anyone know how to change this so I can actually get 1080p video catpures?

When you capture video you get what the video is - you do not need to set anything
What exactly are you doing and what are you using to do it - if your videos are on a SD card then you simply copy them from card to HDD - no "capturing" involved - then import/insert them to VideoStudio

Re: How do I change the quality of video captures on X7?
I'm talking about capturing from my camcorder that's hooked up through an HD video capture card. It's 1080p, but the X7 only lets me select "DVD" as the format. It shouldn't be 720x480, DVD, Variable Bit Rate, 9000kbps. I should be able to adjust that, it shouldn't be SD resolution.

Your card is shown as an analog PCI so... this is what you get.
How do you connect your video to the card?
Have you tried the settings on your card driver?

Unless there are any alternatives in that drop down next to the word "Source" in that panel then your capture card is sending analogue to VideoStudio and that can only be captured as .mpg (DVD)
are there any settings on the capture card you can change - did the capture card come with any software - will that transfer the video to your computer at 1080 - you could then just import/insert that to VideoStudio

Hi Kizzume
What is the make and model of your camcorder?
You say the footage is 1920 x 1080 so I assume a HD camcorder, if so then connecting via the pc’s capture card is not the way to go.
Does your camera record video to tape or memory card / hard drive?
If memory card/ hard drive then connect the camera to the pc via USB.
The camera should show within Computer as a removable drive, from there you should be able to copy and paste the files.
Give us more info regarding the camera and we should be able to suggest the capture / transfer options.

I'm also wondering if kizzume is trying to use the camcorder to record live footage while connected to the PC i.e. as a sort of webcam...?

Re: How do I change the quality of video captures on X7?
Yes, I'm trying to use it as a webcam so I can record back and forth style video responses easily, live, in X7, to people's YouTube videos instead of having to record the audio and video separately for each segment and then combine them in X7 (where I have to line up the audio and video, since I'm not using the audio from the camera except to line it up with the separate recording I make in my audio editor with my professional mic) and clip off the beginnings and ends of clips just the right way. It would reduce the time it takes to make video responses by 4/5. I could make a 15 minute back and forth video response in an hour instead of 4 or 5 hours. I'm just tired of it taking so long, and I thought that since X7 has a video capture option, it might work, but for some reason all I can get it to do are archaic SD standards.

Also, it is a 1080p video capture card that is seen as 1080p by every other program that can utilize it. It is a StarTech PEXHDCAP card.

So why is it showing as a SA7160 PCI analog card?

I don't know. That's how it shows in other programs too and it works in 1080p on those.canuck wrote:Kizzume wrote:Also, it is a 1080p video capture card that is seen as 1080p by every other program that can utilize it. It is a StarTech PEXHDCAP card.

Only thing I cna think of is that the two are not compatible. Have you recorded using the hardwares own software and then imported this into VS for editing?

Re: How do I change the quality of video captures on X7?
The software that came with the capture card won't record audio from my default sound card, it must be plugged into the video capture card.
I'm using OpenBroadcasterSoftware now to do what Corel VideoStudioX7 *should* have been able to do.
