Project won't open!!

Hi guys I was just about finished a editng project today after months of hard editing, and for some reason, I don't know why I got an error saying (VideoStudio has stopped working), I had 2 options , close the program , or go online and close the program. So I closed the program and tried to restart, but the project won't open anymore, always get the same pop up as I mentioned above. I have several projects saved on my computer and they will open, but this one thats VERY important won't. Please tell me how to fix this. Thanks!!

Hopefully, since this has been a long protracted project for you, you would have saved the project over time with different file names ie; myproject001, myproject002 etc.
Go to C:\users\*******\MyDocuments\CorelVideoStudioPro\MyProjects and see if you can locate your project with an earlier names and try each .vsp file in turn to see if one loads.It's likely that something you have added at the end of the project has caused VS to crash

Thats the sad part I have not changed the name. I'm going to attempt to open it with a different computer, copy and paste the project file and most of the files I have used are on an external hard drive, and my bet is the program is having trouble opening the smart sound tracks that I have added. the project almost opening............everything loads it seems till the very last part , and I believe the program loads the smartsounds last, correct me if I'm wrong.Its so frustrating when this kinda thing happens,I love CVS Pro but this is just not right.

If you are using SmartSound, then you must be using VSX7 or earlier, it's unfortunate that the .vsp files do not have .ini files which with PowerDirector has saved me many times, the .ini file gives the complete list of everything included in the project and it was easy to remove any component of the project that may have been causing problems.
it's strange though, that VS just wont load, instead of asking to relink, to be honest, I have no idea at what point SmartSound would be loaded. Good luck trying with a different computer, but I suspect the same problem will be encountered if it is corrupt SmartSound

Hi Robert thanks for your concern, this is just so sad, the time and effort I have put into this is crazy, Yes Iam using ProX 7. I tried to open it with a different computer and your right still no luck, I was hoping the program would just say a certain file was't found because I don't have my smart sound files on the drives that I hooked to this other computer. There as to be someone out there that can help.

Can you zip your VSP and attach to your post.
We can try opening the project to see if it loads, we should get a re-link request as we don't have your files.
It’s a long shot, unfortunately other users with similar corrupt project files (VSP) could not find a fix, I guess you did not wish to hear that, we can only try?

Hi Lata, at this point I would try anything! I have added the file. I used Pro X7 to create this file, maybe can also try Pro X8 to open it as well. IF ANYONE IS SUCCESSFUL AT OPENING IT , DELETE THE SMARTSOUND FILES AND SEND THE FILE BACK TO ME. Thanks!!

I removed the folder SmartSound Software Inc off my computer (temporarily) and this as being the closest I've gotten to opening my project, SO CLOSE!!!! To me it seems that if the project could open without the smart sound files that I've included in it, it would be ok. Is there anyway I can stop smartsound quick tracks from trying to open?

Well you are getting further than I, the program simply crashes, stops responding after loading part of the project.
We are able to open the VSP using NotePad, make a copy first. But the details showing here may identify the files used but modifying the file is another thing.

This is the first time I have ever seen this happen,what would cause this to happen?................................... I can't believe I have to start from scratch again.

I made a copy of the file and opened it with note pad, and yes I understand what you mean modifying it would be difficult. Is there anyone out there that can possible know how to do that Lata? Also if I restored my computer back to before this happened would that solve the problem?

I have passed the details of this post and a copy of the VSP to Corel, maybe their technical guys can come up with something..
Yes maybe system restore would help, I don’t like using that but maybe worth a try?

I don't think System Restore would help. It will get rid of programs or updates of programs which may be causing problems, but it does not touch the product of those programs. A VSP is a text file and I am pretty sure it would not be affected by a Restore. But wouldn't hurt to try, I guess.

Thanks Ken, have you ever seen this happen before, and do you think there is a way to edit, or mess with a VSP file if you opened it in note pad? I think if I could some way remover the smartsound track part of the file it would open.

It has been reported a few times over the years and in different versions. But I cannot recall any solution having been found. And you've seen what the VSP files look like when you open them in Notepad. I have absolutely no idea how you might edit them and still have the file open again...
