I'm running PSPx7 64 bit on two laptops. Computer 1 as an old i3 4gig unit. Computer 2 is a new i5 8gig unit.
Saving a 130meg tiff file to the hard drive on computer 1 takes about 2-3 seconds. The identical file on computer 2 take 6-7 seconds.
Any ideas why? I think I've got identical settings for PSP on both computers but what may have I overlooked?
regards

Re: Question for the computer experts
Check the speed of your hard disk drives, also the number of programs running in the background.
These can cause some differences. As well SSD compared with Sata drives.

Re: Question for the computer experts
Thanks. The new i5 should blow the doors off the old i3 in every respect. Specs are way better.
No other programs running. I pride myself on keeping a clean and simple system. !!!!!
Fragmentation shouldn't be an issue because I regularly clean everything up.
It may be a win 8.1 issue. Every time I open a folder win 8.1 takes forever to rewrite all the thumbnails. That's an issue I've given up on finding a solution for.

Re: Question for the computer experts
Curiously enough, though, I have an i3 running Win 8.1 and it is observably much faster than an i7 running Win 7 which I also have (and is listed under my avatar). Just a thought....

Re: Question for the computer experts
Ken I have tested both computers side by side. The same file takes 2 seconds to save on the old win 7 i3. 9-10 seconds on the win 8.1 i5.
PSPx7 settings are identical for both machine. (Except for workspace and don't get me started on that).

Could be the Windows indexing process running in background or PSP indexing his database.brucet wrote:

Re: Question for the computer experts
Reading both brucet's and Ken's posts, it seems you each have the opposite OS running on your older and newer machines, and yet both of you experience faster results with the older machines than the new ones. That would suggest to me that it isn't the OS causing the problem. Perhaps it's a program compatibility issue, by which I mean that Corel hasn't optimized PSP to work as efficiently on the newer machines (i5 and i7) as it does on the i3. Just a thought.
