Working folder ok to delete what?

Post by msuplantdoc »

Using x7 and moved the working folder to secondary drive due limited space on ssd. The working folder has grown to 135 gigabytes and I need to free up space. However, the working folder has a variety of sub folders and files. What's safe to delete? None have the tmp suffix. I don't want to trash x7 working but this folder has grown too large. Thanks for assistance.

Before we can advise on what is safe to delete, you need to tell us what the contents of the working folder are, Obviously, you can delete any projects you have that have been completed and no longer required, although I always create a Smart Package of completed projects ans save to a separate drive in case of future need, any old .vsp files can be deleted, these are small and don't take up much space anyway. Give us more information to base our advice on

In essence, anything that you have finished working on for good can be deleted.

The challenge is the folder is not just full of easy to recognize .tmp labeled files. There are sub directories containing files with names I don't recognize. I was surprised at the apparent complexity of a working folder. I don't know how to convene the contents for review and Corel provides no information about a folder that keeps growing in size and doesn't seem to clean up when a project has been completed. Many of the files in one folder are video format and I suspect those could be deleted but the other folders and files are cryptic to me. If I am finished with all projects, can I delete all the content but save the folder name because x7is directed to it?

Can you attach a screen shot of some of these files which you don't recognize, then maybe we can identify what they are and determine possible action.
You can delete all the contents of completed projects, just be aware that if you do, you will no longer be able to bring them back for modification if the need arises

Hi some info….

1 / The program/s requires a folders/sub folders where it can save some files the location is C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro

2 / There are also a sub folder for Corel programs, for X7…
C:\Users\User name\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\17.0

Some folders Smart Proxy , Favourites (may show), DMP_Temp, Audio Temp

3 / The program also has a Working Folder aka Capture Folder, taking a Screen Shot for example will be saved to the working folder.

You can allocate any location on the hard drive to be the working folder. (F6) Settings Preferences – Working Folder
Most users create a new / separate folder for each project. all / most files being used in a project can be saved to this folder. Saving your video / images to a separate folder makes it easier to manage the files.

Video Studio uses a process called Smart Proxy, this probably creates the largest files, go to Settings Smart Proxy Manager – Smart Proxy File Manager to Delete Selected Proxy Files.

Most other files are probably of your doing, your images, audio or video files.
Only you know if you can delete those.

As Robert says a screen shot of the folders will help, re-size the window as small as possible but showing all folders. Alt+PrtSc will copy the window image to your clipboard. Paste to an image editor to create a jpeg. Attach to your post.

To help further we really need a screen shot of folders 1 and 2 mentioned above.
