Creating an outline with psp7
Hi all. I am new to this board and to paintshop pro. I would like to use psp to draw an outline of a map. To be clear, I have scanned a detailed map with place names, topography and such and I would like to create blank outline for my class. It seems an easy thing but I cannot figure out how to do this. All suggestions welcome and thank you for reading. I have paintshop pro 7

Just to be sure that is PSP 7 and not X7? If the map is against a clear blue background (sea) you can use the magic wand to select the sea color and then hit the delete key and that will give you your map against a transparent background.
Then invert your selection Selections > Invert and do Selections > Modify > Contract by a couple of pixels and then press delete and that should remove the inside of your map. You should then have an outline of your map a cuople of pixels wide and if you fill this with black you have a black outline map.

Re: Creating an outline with psp7
I guess another question is what exactly do you want outlined? For example, if your map is the United States do you want only the outside border of the country as a whole or do you want to include outlines of the individual states?
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

If you attach an image of a map that you want to outline it would be easier for people to determine the best way to create the outline you desire.

Re: Creating an outline with psp7
Thank you for your replies. It is indeed PSP X7 I am using, sorry for that. I would like initially to have an outline of the whole country / map but can see that I would like to be able to apply what I can learn here to other maps .
I have been attempting to use the eraser but this is a long and slow process . I thought there may be another way that I was unaware of. The actual map is in class so I am unable to upload it here at present. All your help and suggestions are appreciated.

Why not simply download an outline map? Search the Web for "Maps of <place name>" and you'll get thousands of options, including raster images and vector images.
For example, this site:
http://www.eduplace.com/ss/maps/usa.html
has various outline USA maps (and world maps) that explicitly allow for their use in classrooms.
