Do a clean uninstall (see the specific message on this board about the subject on uninstall).
And reinstall...

If a clean reinstall does not work, then you could try setting up a new Profile in Windows. Log onto the computer using that new Profile. Then try installing PSP. If that works, then you can later uninstall the new Profile, but PSP should continue to work.

Delete the file you have downloaded and reload another instance.
Your installation file could be corrupted.

Do you have the possibility to install the same downloaded file on another computer ? If same error, the downloaded file is the culprit IMHO.

I had the X6 you uninstall it to install the X7 and .... from then on the problem.

First, you don't need to uninstall X6 in order to install X7... They can both remain on the computer as separate programs. Some of us have several versions of PSP on the same computer.

Second, it makes me wonder, though, whether you bought the upgrade version of X7. That would be looking for an earlier version (X6) or else it could be asking you to first put in the serial number of X6 so it can verify that the upgrade was valid. Then you put in the new X7 serial number. But does your son's computer also have X6 still installed on it? If not, then my theory doesn't hold up...

When you put in the serial number, does any message appear on the screen? If there is a message, can you make an image of it and upload it here as an Attachment, or at least tell us what it says? (What is your native language, by the way?)
