I Keep Losing an Add-on

I Keep Losing an Add-on
I purchased the Topaz Detail add-on awhile ago and used it on my old computer (Win 7). The computer was dying quickly, so I bought a new one (Win 8.1). I installed my PaintShop Pro X7 Ultimate. The scripts did not load properly, but I'm not too concerned about that. I downloaded the add-on and it worked, but then disappeared when I tried to use it again (sometimes immediately, sometimes after using it a few times). I have reloaded it 3 or 4 times now and am still having the same problem. Contacting Corel is a feat unto itself, but I am well past my original 30 day help period and do not want to pay to have this resolved. Can anyone help me, please? Thanks. Dale

Re: I Keep Losing an Add-on
I notice that your post has had quite a few views with no replies, so at the very least we can assume that either these viewers don't have the Detail plugin or, if they do, they don't have your problem. I have that plugin and I do not have any issue with it appearing in the PSP Effects>Plugins menu.
When you say that you have "loaded" the plugin several times do you mean that you have first completely uninstalled it and then reinstalled it? If things are working properly it should appear under Effects>Plugins>Topaz Labs - and stay there.
EDIT: The other thing to confirm is that your Plugins file locations are pointing to the folder that has that particular plugin, and confirm that this path hasn't been somehow getting removed from your location preferences.

Re: I Keep Losing an Add-on
Are those plug-ins 32 or 64 bits, and in the right folder for the 32 or 64 bit version of X7?

Re: I Keep Losing an Add-on
Not sure if this a related issue but I had PSPx7 and my Topaz plugins completely vanish from my laptop a week or two back. Phssst. Gone, no trace. I did a reinstall of everything and so far so good.
I'm wondering if there is a common link. (One caveat. I ran CClean before the vanishing act).

Re: I Keep Losing an Add-on
Unfortunately registry cleaners can be dangerous to your computer's health unless properly monitored by someone who actually knows what the stuff they might "clean" is related to and the potential effects of the removal of that stuff. I have never run a registry cleaner myself, and the stray stuff that likely exists in my registry takes up very little space and likely very little resources - certainly not enough to warrant the potential issues that can arise by letting a piece of software root around my registry and determine on its own what's important or not. So, as you might have gathered, I suspect that CClean was the culprit.brucet wrote:Not sure if this a related issue but I had PSPx7 and my Topaz plugins completely vanish from my laptop a week or two back. Re: I Keep Losing an Add-on
I had the computer only 2 days when I downloaded Topaz Detail, so I doubt that the registry is to blame, nor CCleaner (I haven't downloaded that yet). It is 64-bit and loaded into the 64-bit PSP. When it has disappeared, I did a "Search" and it could not be found.
I have been using PSP for years and have always had problems contacting them. Does anyone have a phone number or link?

Re: I Keep Losing an Add-on
If you have had PSP on the computer for more than 30 days, you will have to pay for Corel support. However, there is a PSP Facebook page which seems to be staffed by Corel and which seems also to provide answers to questions posted there.

Re: I Keep Losing an Add-on
You have to install Topaz filters to your system drive (C:/Programs - for 64bit and Programsx86 - for 32bit).
Open PSP 32 bit, go to file, File Locations, Plugins and find the Topaz folder in Programsx86, click OK. The Topaz filters will now show in Plugins. Do the same for the 64bit PSP version if you installed Topaz for 64bit. I hope this helps.
