PSP and Photoshop Elements

Post by Rick_R »

Just curious if anyone has any ideas on how to deal with these:

1) I found out that when Photoshop Elements and PSP adjustment layers are used on an image (saved in .PSD format, since PE can't read .pspimage files), each program recognizes layers created by the other program, but the other program's adjustment layers have no effect.

It works in both directions, i.e., any adjustment layers you create in PE will show up in PSP but won't have any effect and any created in PSP will show up but not have any effect in PE.

Since in both cases the file is being saved in .PSD format, it would seem that any changes should be fully compatible with PE and therefore function in either program.

2) Text meta-data added in PE isn't visible in PSP and vice versa. (For instance, for a .png file.)

I'm using PE 12 and PSP X7, but I noticed these situations several versions back.

I personally use psp 99.8% of the time when editing. The .02% I use CS6 I have to raster layer or create layer for psp to open it correctly.
Basically their two different programs with two very different engines. Best thing is to make a choice and use one or the other. I admit Photoshop can do things psp can't but that's a two way street.
