Greetings,
Trying out PSP because my PSE is old (ver 7) and I can not do with it what I would like.
I would like to create a Gold Font http://www.photoshopstar.com/text-effec ... photoshop/ effect like this one done in PhotoShop.
I have been searching and looking through google, links, sites, the Corel Discovery Center, but am not able to find anything near the above quality.
Any help or direction is much appreciated. You are dealing with a novice in image editing, but I am pretty technically capable.
Kind Regards,
Mac

Re: Gold Font Effect
You can do something similar with PSP and I'm sure there is more than one way to do this. Here's one example.
Type your text
Use Magic Wand (with contiguous unchecked) to select the letters. I had feather set to 4.
Flood Fill with Gradient Corel 06_017
Effects -> 3D Effects -> Inner Bevel.
Play with the Inner Bevel effects until you get something you like. I'll upload the settings I used alongside the finished product.

Re: Gold Font Effect
I have looked at the gold effect and tutorial on the link you provided and concluded that to do this properly (i.e., to get such a realistic effect as opposed to a so-so gold effect) will be somewhat time consuming in either program, but the results are impressive. PSP has, I believe, most if not all of the same tools and effects - or tools and effects that are similar to them - that appear in that tutorial. I can only suggest that you start by looking at the tutorial step-by-step and with each step check out PSP for a tool, filter or effect that is the same or similar to the one in the tutorial and make note of where it is in PSP and what it is called. At the same time you should be starting your image in PSP as you would in PS in the tutorial and see how far you can get before you can't find a method in PSP similar to the one needed to complete a next step. Then post back with the info about where you got stuck and see if anybody knows what tool, etc., in PSP could get you through that next step.

Re: Gold Font Effect
Have attempted to get a gold effect with PSP.
1. Typed in a large font with fill yellow.
2. Converted text layer to raster layer
3. Applied Effects > 3D effects > Inner Bevel lots of sliders to try different things here.
4. Saved that image - The top image below.
5. Loaded the image into Irfanview and used Image > Effects > Effects Browser > Metallic Gold
6 Varied the slider there from 0 to 52 tp 112 respectively in image below. So lots of effects available + choosing a large 3d Text font will also help.

Re: Gold Font Effect
Some nice work there! One note about your results that I also noticed (to a somewhat lesser extent) with the image produced in the tutorial at the link provided by the OP. In all cases there is some jagginess in the results that becomes more or less apparent depending on the background color. Now all of the attempts start with vector text which shouldn't have any jagginess to speak of, but somewhere in the process that test has to be rasterized and I suspect that it is the manipulations after that stage that results in the jagginess. Is there a way to avoid that?hartpaul wrote:Have attempted to get a gold effect with PSP.

Re: Gold Font Effect
The first image was from PSP and the jagginess comes in from the filters in the free Irfanview. If I wanted to get an image without the jagginess I would use a much larger image first ( that first one was only about 800 pixels - long side) So I would go to something about 3000 pixels apply the effects and then resize down.

Re: Gold Font Effect
Hi,
I thought that the jagginess added to the look, giving it a somewhat cast look. The example is quite shiny, but I prefer a cast look like in the link below, which was done with Xara and Filter Forge.
http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread. ... st-letters
I presume that it could also be done using PSP and Filter Forge. I did not do a search and I am wondering if anyone has used Filter Forge with PSP. Angelize has posted some tutorials on YouTube showing how to work with FF.
Or, is there a way to give a similar texture using PSP X7 Ultimate. As a newbie, I haven't gotten that far yet?
In the original example, there is a shiny reflection effect, not shown in the great images done by hartpaul. The effect is partially on the lettering, and partially on the background. Is there a way to add these reflections in PSP?
