Service Pack 3 install error

Post by mjrielly »

I've been trying to install SP3 but keep getting an error. I tried removing PSP all together and reinstalling int, but I get the same error when trying to install the SP.
Any ideas?

I had the same issue with SP1 and just kept clicking on "Retry" and it finally loaded. Have not had the same success with SP2 in that I have tried loading it seven times and have seven fatal errors that are all different

I hate to suggest this to those having service pack installation issues (because I'm not a fan of uninstall/reinstall as a procedure) but if several people at least are having this issue it is likely something to do with a combination of the user's system, registry state and the PSP installation having some conflict. In the end it might be best to uninstall PSP using the clean uninstall tools in the sticky post near the top of this forum, download a new installation package from Corel, install it and then let it automatically check for updates (as it should do during the installation). Just a thought, although one I always consider a last resort.

I have only had X7 for a month or so, and it installed some stuff automatically after I installed the program (which might have been SP2 I guess). I don't let programs check for updates so downloaded SP3 manually and installed it manually and there were no issues with that installation.

I did that. It is still having the same issue. I was hoping the new install would have the patches incorporated. But it still tells me to install SP2 AND SP3 is now available. I work for a software company. If our updates were like this people would be screaming bloody murder.

Understood. But to be fair we don't know how many of the thousands of people who use PSP are having the issue that you and a couple of other posters have reported. In this thread there are only 3 reports of issues, one of which was just a glitch of some sort because it installed anyway despite the error warning.

And of course there are people like me who had no issue at all with X7 automatically updating to SP2 when I first installed it and accepting the SP3 update a couple of weeks ago when I installed that, and it is possible that we make up the vast majority of users with no problems. If, in fact, that is the case then that would at least suggest that in the minority of cases it is likely system specific. Just a thought. :-)

I'll try removing it again. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that both the 32bit and 64bit versions were installed initially. Maybe it is not properly cleaning out everything on the uninstall.

That is possible. After doing a clean uninstall using the tool provided by Corel you might want to check two areas of your system drive. First make sure that there are no Corel PSP folders left in your C:\Users\User\AppData folder and in any Temp folders, also making sure that any resources you have downloaded yourself and installed after installing PSP are safely backed up somewhere else so you don't have to source them again. Also search the registry for Corel items, but make sure that any items you might delete from the registry are ONLY PSP items if you also have other Corel products installed.

Well I have just installed X7 SP3 on three computers.
X7 17.1 on Xp machine,
X7 17.0 trial (finished) in Win 7 Home Premium inserted Key from second purchase of tX7 and then installed SP3
X7 17.1 on Win 8 laptop and installed SP3.
In each case I opened the 32 bit version of the program, closed it and then in the message that came up advising that an update was available proceeded from there with no problems at all.
So 3 successful installations on three different systems and with no service pack and 2 with SP1 installed.
So for me there is no problem with the installation of the programs or the updates.
As JoeB has mentioned the problems may lie with the specific systems and not with the program.
I should point out that I installed both 32 and 64 bit versions and accepted default configurations of toolbars. I have also not needed to uninstall any of the versions.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

For what it's worth? Had the same problem getting multiple "access denied' messages. (They were odd tmp files like "languages", australia/lin30D2, python libraries, color profile, etc., etc.) Here's what worked for me; A variation on another writers solution: I went into my "Downloads" directory and clicked on the PSP X7 download file stored there. A "Contents Pack" came up with an option to "Repair". I clicked on "Repair", ran the program, then exited back to the "Service Pak 3" download. Ran the download and immediately got an "access denied" message w/ the option to "Retry". I clicked on 'retry'. The 'denied' message returned, so I clicked on it again and it moved on. I probably clicked "Retry" 15 times as each 'denied' message came up. But, in the end, it finally downloaded. Try that. Good luck.
