When setting up the crop tool, I usually enter the dimensions in the toolbar, but there's a problem: I use Tab to jump between fields, so eg. if I want to enter 1000x500, I type 1000<Tab>500. The problem happens after pressing Tab - focus moves to the other field, I continue typing, then PSP for some reason restores the old content of the input box a split second later, which results in my first one or two keypresses being lost, and the rest being added to what was in the field before (eg. if the field contained 444. I end up with 4440 or 44400).
This is really annoying, and it would be nice if PSP stopped doing that (this happens even if "Maintain aspect ratio" checkbox is unchecked - but even if it was checked, the inputbox content should be updated the moment the first one loses focus, not some arbitrary time later).
The problem has been there forever, and is still present in X7 17.2.0.16.

Re: Crop toolbar annoyance
I use X6. Have used crop tool as you've described but I haven't experienced your issue. The input values have always stayed.
There is two aspects in the tool bar. 1. for Pixel Dimensions and 2. Print size. They both change as you input your own values. I use the Pixel Dimensions all the time, never the Print size. Not that, that matters.
The one thing I just notice is the when you choose the crop tool, the dimensions value is set maxed out at 100x100. When you manually move the crop window this value then allows you to edit it up to equal the full image dimensions.
I've always just manually opened the crop window over the image, not tried to enter the values in the toolbar straight from opening the crop tool. Maybe you try just dragging the mouse over the image to manually size the crop window before entering the true crop size you require. It's something I do without thinking about it. Hadn't noticed the Maxed out value at 100x100 before.

Re: Crop toolbar annoyance
I always type in Pixel dimensions. Note that you have to continue typing immediately after pressing Tab - if you wait, this problem doesn't appear. I just tested, and the problem goes back at least to X2 (I didn't test X3, because I don't have it installed, but it definitely happens in X4, X5 and X6).
As for why I'm trying to enter values: when creating wallpapers, I enter the desired screen resolution, then check the "Maintain aspect ratio" checkbox, and finally resize the crop rectangle to whatever I want to have in the wallpaper.

Using presets may be faster and save the typing. I presume that there is a limited number of screen dimensions that you would want to use. set up presets for all the sizes of screensavers you use and then select them via the presets. That will also save the Maintain Aspect Ratio setting as well. So in 2 clicks you have both numbers and the aspect ration done.
