CVS X8 mask bug

Post by Don Hose »

i have CVSx7 ultimate and CVSX8 ultimate ....
there is a problem with photo masks.. that CVSX7 doesn't have..
X8 leaves a black strip at the top of the mask.. top not sides or bottom..
fairly thin but shows on light video/photo backgrounds..
X7 does not do that.. other than that works flawlessly..
tried every work around I could; no dice.. except rendering on X7..

should be easy fix.. I use masks a lot... hoping for a fix soon..
I loved X7 but crazy about X8.. no other bugs I've found..

Yes tried background color of white and black.. nada..... IT's a BUG
Always possible I did something wrong.. but doubt it this time..
Please ... keep me in the loop.. Don

Hi Don

Can you explain a little more as I am not sure exactly which mask you are referring to.
Better still create a short project using the sample library clips.
Add your mask.
Zip the VSP file and attach to your post, we can then see exactly what is happening.

If you create a project using X7, then open in X8 does the problem still show, or is it only when created using X8.

Actually that was a good question...
of the several masks in the mask and chroma key option not all of them had the line at the top..
CVS X7 does not seem to have this problem.. a black line at the top of the mask
ON SOME of the masks.. not large line but on light backgrounds of a video it shows.. looks ugly..

I was displaying photos with motion with various masks over a video..
work brilliantly except for the line on some of the masks..

I looked at the masks it's not with all the masks (I also made a few mask of my own{correctly})
same deal... with them.. I think it's with the internal routine that displays the masks..
SOMEthing different between X7 & X8.. with this routine.. X7 does not do this..
I have not gotten rid of X7 yet.. got both on my computer..

I was a programmer for 40 years so I know this could happen.. Bugs they happen..
The routine stops processing a tad short (or something)..

By the way I love the masking option.. and the new other options... in chroma key..
CVSX 7/8 (ultimate) is unquestioningly the easiest most awesome program(s)
Good Work.. try it you will see.. The photos were overlayed in video.. with cross fade..
can't see it with black or dark background..

Hi

Yep I see the line at the top on some images.

Does the line appear in preview before rendering or only on the final video?

I have tried a few options but unable to replicate the problem, maybe the type of clips I am using?

Your best option would be to create a smart package of the project, upload to dropbox, that way we can see your original work.

How did you set the Pan and Zoom there are a few ways to do that?

I remember something similar where the border or shadow caused the lines, whether that was after using the Chroma Masks I don’t recall?

If you use one of the library sample videos, does that have the same issue?

Trevor';

Will try your suggestions.. remember it didn't happen when rendered on CVSX7

YES; I saw the black line before rendering during edit as well..
Thought changing background color from white to black would FIX it.... it didn't..

will send the smart package to you by dropbox.. so you can play with it..
it's always somethin'.... as they say.. heres the dropbox link to all the source..

Recently I edit a Jazz gig where on the 2n'd CU camera I used masks (VS and my own) . I didn't had this line but I do remember seeing it before. Certainly I will NOT give such result to a client until solved.

Hi

I was able to open and run that vsp project, required one re-link but that was to be expected.
One concern was the project properties using DVD 720 x 480 standard definition at 29.97 fps, when the video was a Pal version using 1920 x 1080 x 25fps

Using mixed Pal and Ntsc is not gonna do you any favours, whether that is causing the lines is debatable.
When you created the project using X7 what were the project properties?

I am also now seeing issues with the text size, not sure what going on there maybe the project properties size?

I saved the project as a X7 version only for it to crash the program, X7 that is?

I’ll create my own project using your files to see if changing the properties helps..

Hi

Post updated

Some images are Jpeg types, they are ok, others are PNG, all these show the line?
There is also a very light rectangle showing, not all the frame is removed when applying the masks.

The PNG images have been saved using 16 bit, I changed that to 8 bit which seemed to clear the lines.
Converting the PNG to Jpeg also cleared the line.

I don’t know enough about 8 bit and 16 bit images but clearly is making a difference.

Whether Video Studio should be able to cope with 16 bit is the question to be asked to Corel?

I have used CVSX7 with similar lines showing after using the mask.

To test you may be best changing the background colour to white (F6), then only add the images to the overlay track - apply the mask

AH!... help......

Thanks guys all very useful information....
I can see I'm giving CVS a hard time with the formats..
Easily remedied... will be more careful in the future...

CVS is so good.... it made me sloppy..
Easy to forget the difference between photo and video formats and protocols..
I'll bet I gave the worker dwarves in programming something to work on..

Amazing CVS even compiled at all.. thanks again will try this new info to me..
Thanks again.. Don.. (going jpg worked.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** Am wondering how/if CVS can deal with 32bit Png's and an alpha channel..
or alpha channels in a wider context.. just a question..
