Cannot moveor drag clips in overlay track

Post by Brucewh »

Corel VideoStudio X7 Ultimate has suddenly started behaving in a way I do not want it to. I've been using successive versions of VideoStudio for seven or eight years, but this behavior is entirely unprecedented..

I created a video and inserted the primary video in the track #1, and video of the same event from another camera in overlay track #1. Either I was mistaken when I thought I had synched into clips, or I somehow moved the overlay clip in the timeline, because the two are now out of sync with each other by seven frames (0.07 on the counter). The timing difference is very noticeable.

Well, no problem, I do these two-camera sound synchs all the time, and I'm very particular for women set down to VideoStudio would not allow me to move the video on the overlay track anywhere. Cannot drag it up and down the timeline, or into the second overlay track I added. It will let me copy and paste the clip into another overlay track, but VS won't let it move. Tried to insert the original overlay video into an overlay track, with the same result.

I've searched through product options, I checked the user guide, I Googled different words and phrases out into the Internets, and I can't find anything at all about this. I figure it likely that I accidentally turned something on or off in VS, and somebody is about to point out some obvious, simple thing that is eluding me.

I've tried everything I could think of. Finally the computer started mocking me, saying something about shrubbery and sparrows and coconuts. So I should be glad for any pointers I can get.

The only thing I can think of is that you have Ripple Editing on. As I understand it, When enabled, it's supposed to keep everything that was in the timeline at the time it was enabled, in sync the way it was and supposedly not allow any alterations in the syncing of "that" material. Any material added after that just moves the previous block of material around in the timeline, while maintaining that block of materials sync. You can turn on and off the sync function for each track. Those little padlock icons at the beginning of each track indicate whether a track is locked or not.
