Struggling with X7 video capture !

Post by Paul33 »

I need some help with capturing VHS video via X7.

I have a VHS recorder linked to my PC via an EZCap USB capture device and have set my X7 capture details to Composite input and TV System Pal B (I'm in UK).

First up I see the video on screen in colour but no sound/audio,

Second, if I click on Capture Video, I just get a pop-up stating "Cannot start the capture graph".

Can anybody help me here ?

Try doing it in two steps. First capture to a file in your PC and then use VS from that file.

I think the capture video is aimed at FireWire.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi

Just to confirm Terfyn it is USB connection not firewire.

Did you purchase from the official Ezcap site?
There are many fakes about, please view this post
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40286

First try using Arcsoft Show Biz to capture the video, that program should have been provided with the Ezcap device.
I also assume you have also installed the Ezcap capture driver.

For audio there should be an option for USB audio, something like that, your mic may be selected as audio input by default.?

Using Video Studio choose the Options Cogwheel for preferences, you can choose a profile and also the audio input to USB audio.

If the video captures correctly but no way to capture audio you can use a cable from the VHS audio to connect directly to “line in”, bypassing the Ezcap completely although you should not have to do that.

Okay thanks, yes it is the authentic EZCap and I eventually found my Arcsoft Showbiz software and it eventually worked once I had sorted out the audio driver via Device Manager.

The thing that bugs me is that the budget Arcsoft software works fine but there is no audio on Veideostudio X7 no matter what I try ..... and still getting the "capture graph" warning !!!

That's because arcsoft is made to work with the ezcap and VS isn't and will not.

Hi Paul

I don’t have a problem with Ezcap and Video Studio, seems to work just as well as Arcsoft software, earlier versions of VS did not give enough capture profiles to choose from so I preferred Arcsoft but the latest versions of VS seem to work ok.

I assume the Device Manager is clear and not showing any yellow error flags?

Video Studio audio….did you set the audio capture properties to use USB audio

Make sure no other program is using the device when trying to capture with VS?

Try playing the VHS then select the capture tab --Capture Video

Thanks I will keep trying.

The problem in X7 is that the USB Audio option doesn't appear as an option whereas it does in Arcsoft.

Hi Paul

I have normally used a laptop to connect the ezcap device, no problems there.

I tried my desktop that use the same operating system Windows 7 Home. Now I have problems, same as yourself, I can only assume the installed drivers are the problem.
I re-installed the drivers then got the Cannot start Graph, I unplugged the usb and then plugged in again, received the message “ a new device is connected, do you want to use” that seemed to cure the video part.

My device manger showed two Audio USB Device, one for my USB Mic, the other my ezcap Mic.

I changed the recording input options to make ezcap the default device, that worked initially then had same audio issues.
Unplugging the desktop usb Mic seemed to work and I was able to capture ok with ezcap.

Selecting USB Audio as you say only shows using Arcsoft, think I may have been confused there.

Anyway for me there seems to be a conflict with the two usb devices, ezcap against my mic. The laptop only has the built in mic, no conflict there.

As it stands now I can capture provided the desktop mic is unplugged.

The capture device has to be plugged after the software is installed, at least it works this way for any capture device I have used. This way the device drives are installed instead of the generic Windows drivers which of course are not recognized by the device software.
There should always be 2 entries in the device manager, one for the audio part and one for the video part.

Hi
Thanks Canuck

I have managed to get my device working + desktop mic by uninstalling the ezcap driver and allowing windows to auto install the ezcap usb driver.

I have not had a problem in the past, maybe was lucky to install in the correct order.

To the OP

I have a new Ezcap and it works fine in W7 and 8.1, but on one of my machines I did have to follow the troubleshooting step in the documentation that came with it. I've attached a scan below.
