Hi everyone.
I am not only new to this forum but to video editing as well. Just bought VideoStudio X8 Ultimate and trying to get started. I created a new folder and imported my video-clips I shot with my new camera.
Format is MP4 H.264, resolution is 1280 x 720. I can open and watch the clips with windows media player without any problem. But within Videostudio I have problems:
When putting one clip on the timeline (video track) a "still" appears, followed by a green field. Playing as clip doesn't do anything. Playing as project gives me the audio but not the video. I am sure I am missing something somewhere. I am hoping someone can push me in the right direction.
Thanks

Difficult to say but the clip you described is correct. A thumbnail followed by a green field showing the "length" along the Timeline for how long the clip plays.
Go to Settings > Preferences and tick the box "Show Message when inserting first clip into the Timeline". Remove the clip from the Timeline (Delete) and re-insert, a message should appear. Tick Yes and retry.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

And to get around the way your clip appears, go to Preferences > General, and change Clip Display Mode to "Thumbnail only". That way you will get a sequence of progressive frames showing on the timeline rather than the one frame followed by green.
Where did your video come from? Normally 1280 x 720 mp4/AVCHD will play with no trouble in Video Studio. However, some recent smartphones have started adding variable frame rates to their video instead of using the standard 25 fps (PAL) or 30 fps (NTSC), or 50/60 fps. And VS seems to have trouble with those variable frame rates. In those cases all we can suggest is that you need to first convert the clips to a standard frame rate using a third party video converter. A number of us use the freeware Format Factory. Just be careful to refuse the various offers it makes to install other software during its installation process.
Just to clarify, you need to remove the clip, then start a new project before you reinsert the clip in the timeline. Then you will get the message.Remove the clip from the Timeline (Delete) and re-insert, a message should appear.
