Looking for tutorial to "fix" paintwork and dents

Post by Jan Shim »

Hello,

I'm looking for Paintshop Pro tips or tutorial on restoring dents such as this attached example of dented hood. It's something I have to work on occasionally and thought this would be a great opportunity to learn something new however challenging it may be.

I do a lot of car photos. I find the best solution is to create a new layer. Raster. Then using the airbrush tool and materials pick various shades from your original layer and carefully spray over the dent in the rater layer. It will take some practice but it's not as hard as it first seems. Don't worry too much about lines from your subject. Once you get the colours and shade correct you can use the erase tool to reveal the key shapes from below.

Make sure you use soft edges and lots of opacity when using your airbrush.

I've attached a very rough edit using the above steps.

regards
