The file may be write-protected ???

Post by tester »

Corel VideoStudio X8
Windows 7 64
After I have edited my video file I press Share, selecting a video type and pressing Start.
I tried everything but still getting the message: "The file may be write-protected" [15033;10;2]

Did somebody had the same problem and had chance to resolve it?
Thanks

Hi

Please try changing / selecting another "file location", it is possible that the selected location on longer exists.

Hi lata,

I googled this same question which led me to this Forum - I tried what you said and voila! (without looking, it was trying to save to a directory on my usb stick which was no longer inserted within the machine) - I simply changed to the directory/folder I wanted, job done and no longer a write-protected issue.

I thought the least I could do was join the community and thank you

Have you checked the location that Videostudio is trying to save to - does that location exist always - is it trying to save to a USB stick or external hard drive which is not present - try saving to a new location - one which you can see exists

Yep, that's what it was. I earlier moved my File Location. A simple redirect via Browse fixed it. Thanks a Graves Number!
Thank you for your assistance. I'm very grateful!

Thank you for this solution. I hurriedly typed in a file path that was wrong by one letter and obviously I got the write-protected error.

Somethings in life are so simple yet I created my own frustration and problem.

Thank you lata

OMG.... I was having the same trouble with Quick Time Movie files I was trying to edit in Video Studio 2021. I continued to get the error message "The file may be write protected" [15033:10:2]. I had noticed the Output Destination folder, for my system, was set to temp2/test. Temp2 is the folder I do all of my initial video editing in before moving the files to a different folder for final processing.

I had noticed the output destination folder was showing as temp2/test, but I just figured if the folder did not exist, VS would just create it. Not so. After I changed the output folder to simply temp2, VS compiled it with no problem. Sometimes the solution is so simple you just don't see it. :)

I just encountered this same issue. I spent half hour checking all the files and file folders to ensure they were not locked as "read-only" because that is what the error message seemed to indicate, then out of frustration checked here.

And yes the error was trying to save the output produced file to a folder that was actually deleted.
May I suggest that the software developers actually come up with a better error message, that is helpful because the current one is plainly misleading.

An easy solution to give a more meaningful message
Believe me! that has been requested for many years to the Corel development team.
I will be reporting this again in the next few days and bring their attention to this post.
