Grainy video not worth watching!
I have had a problem with my VideoStudio X5 Ultimate for quite a while and am about to give up on Corel if I can't get a solution. Any videos that are action unless very close up are VERY grainy. Even the close ups are not as clear as the raw videos. I am recording on a GoPro Hero4 Silver and the raw video is fine when I watch it on Gopro Studio or any other player on my PC. But as soon as I import it to VideoStudio it shows VERY grainy. We recently recorded some zipline video and my wife said the trees looked like the Predator movie the way they were so grainy. It was also a problem a couple years ago with a hand held JVC Everio camcorder although not quite as bad because of the nature of the videos. I have tried the trial version of VideoStudio X8 and it was about the same. My Gopro Studio does just fine, everything is crystal clear, but I don't have the same amount of applications and effects that I have with VideoStudio. When I pause a grainy video on VideoStudio, it pauses clear and clean, but hit play again and grainy.

Ken Berry who is sleeping in New Zealand at the moment has a Gopro and for sure he would not put up with grainy videos - I am sure he will be online later and will have the answer to your problem.

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
I'm now awake though it's only about 7 a.m. down here!
My GoPro is the Hero 3 Black edition, but I am pretty sure it uses the same mp4 format yours does. I have mine set to film in 1920 x 1080 at 50 fps (PAL). And I use VS X7 and X8 on Windows 8.1 64 bit. I don't have the same problem described by you, either during editing or playback of an output video. In fact just last night I was showing some visitors a video I had just completed, all done from GoPro footage, and my guests commented on the crystal clear image...
What I do in Video Studio when I first install it is to go into Preferences > General and tick the box beside "Show message when inserting first video clip into timeline". Then when I start a new project with GoPro footage and insert the first clip, I get a message asking if I want the Project Properties to match those of the clip. I OK that and the Properties are changed. I then do my editing, and when satisfied I go to Share > Same As Project Properties. VS does its thing and as I say, the quality comes out exactly the same as the original raw mp4 from the GoPro.
Have you ticked that box? What are the settings of your video from the Hero 4?

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
Hi
Video Studio X5 project properties can only use standard definition resolution, for Pal 720 x 576.
Your video I assume uses 1920 x 1080, that is not gonna look good displaying as SD.
Video Studio X8 trial is the same, its limited to standard definition project properties.
We can cheat a little by setting project properties to use AVI, NO compression, with a frame size of 1920 x 1080.
Maybe that will improve the playback quality.
Also from Settings – enable Smart Proxy
And if your footage is progressive 50/60P set that vai Settings.

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
Can I assume that VS X8 will utilize these HD settings? Is the VS X8 full download different from the trial version as far as these settings? I would have downloaded X8 full if the trial would have been clear!

Hi
How fast was the zip line going, it may be just to fast to record all details, just a thought
Are you able to provide a sample video, upload to Google Drive or Windows One Drive, then we can the actual files which may help.

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
The Zipline was not going that fast. I have an example clip on Google drive showing 3 examples: 1st is the zipline, 2nd is an ultralight flight and 3rd is on a chairlift in Copper Mt. I'm not up to speed on Google Drive so not sure what I have to do for you to see it!?!

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
I'm sorry -- I sent my answer above without having focused on the fact you are using X5 which doesn't off the Same As option I mentioned. Unfortunately, I don't think the X8 trial version will offer it either. Corel made a huge mistake with the trial version of X8 and have stripped out many things, especially anything to do with codecs which are not installed as part of Windows. That's probably because they did not want to pay licence fees for those extra codecs when it is only a trial version. They have never told us exactly what is missing apart from that, so we only learn when people report things are missing from the trial. Is the VS X8 full download different from the trial version as far as these settings?
But the full version certainly does everything I described (as does X7). One user has suggested buying the full version and if after testing you decided not to buy it, then within 30 days seek a refund.

Here is the link to the video from Google Drive. 1st 6 seconds is the zipline...2nd 6-8 seconds is an ultralight flight over cabo and the last part is on a chairlift in Copper Mt.
I just purchased the VS X8 Ultimate and will download it this morning and see if it is better. If not, it will be refund time.

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
Those are the processed files and are in 720x480 format and will of course be much lower in quality. You should upload the raw GoPro filestnt51 wrote:https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByE4qp ... sp=sharing

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
Hi
As Canuck says the originals were the files we were after, sorry for not making that clear.
However seeing your rendered files has had its use in showing the quality of the Standard Definition, yes they do look very pixelated, You have rendered to DVD Mpeg2 format.
You should render to Same as Originals where possible, using AVCHD 1920 x 1080
Knowing the properties of the originals would help as we can advise on the correct render properties, provide a sample of the original footage even better.

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
I have downloaded VS X8 Ultimate and without any adjustments to the program, the video is much better. It is still playing in DVD 720X480 so obviously I need to change settings for the exact same quality. I change it to AVCHD 1920X1080 and get an error message that says "custom profiles could be cleand, do you want to continue?" I'm not sure I see where and when to change preferences on VS like Ken Berry mentioned.

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
Hi
can you confirm you are using the full version and not the X8 trial
Go to settings Preferences (F6) tick Show Messages when inserting first video.....
Start a new project
Add one of your video files, hopefully you will get a panel / window prompting you to match the project settings, do you see that window.
If yes choose Details to copy and paste the video properties to your post, (right hand panel) then we will know what you are working with.
Select yes and your project properties will be updated.
But as we say upload a sample to Google Drive.

Re: Grainy video not worth watching!
Yes, I went ahead and purchased the download version pf VS X5 Ultimate. I went to Settings> Preferences> and clicked the box showing Show Massage. I have started a new project and this is the video prop. 24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps The full screen view looks great, the small editing view is still pixalated by I can live with that as long as the finished product is clean.
