Moviefactory 4 does not like videostudio?
Heres a goofy problem. I have videostudio 9 and disc creator 4 (for the menu options) I made 7 mpeg2 videos from videostudio9 and they play just fine. I go to import them into disccreator 4 to make the menus and it comes up "this file has no video data" However I can import Mpeg1 files created with videostudio9 but since im creating a DVD it would not be a good quality.
just for the hell of it disccreator 4 will also import divx versions of the same videos.
I also tried to rendered the videos in videostudio as dvd format mpegs that also did not work (i originally rendered them as standard Mpeg2)
Thinking it could be a goofy computer problem I installed disc creator 4 on another machine (underpowered for the task) brought over the mpeg files and sure enough it still will not import them.
Whenever I start disccreator4 I do get an error message at first (a key error) but then it does launch. It happened as well on the other machine.
I ended up using videostudio's menu creator to finish the project but I wanted to use the better menu options of disccreator 4 which is why I bought it. Videostudio will not burn the disc it hangs forever but I just created the ISO image and then used other software to make the final disc. I can live with that issue but not being able to use MPEG files created by ANOTHER Ulead product is really dissapointing.
Anyone have an idea of a fix for this?

WRONG FORUM!
However, try encoding in MF4, rather than VS9.

Wrong forum?
The product is dvd moviefactory 4 disc creator. Upgraded from version 3 (which worked fine)
Videostudio 9 has more editing features then MF4 so to encode using only
MF4 would be a loss of options.
Still, it makes no sense why MF4 will not take in MPEG2's created by VS9

There is definitely something wrong because
VS7/8/9 & MF3/4 can co-exist together.
Not sure how you upgraded to MF4 but I would start with the KEY error.
Maybe a license Key?
If you ordered a CD from element5 at the time of purchasing the upgrade
you should use that to re-install MF4.

mpeg2 and mpeg2 and mpeg2 can actually be three different things. What are the clip properties, project settings in VS9? You mentioned standard mpeg and DVD mpeg, what exactly do you mean by that and, why would you have VS9 render an mpeg file that needs to be reencoded in MF4?
I don't mean to be a pest but am trying to understand what exactly you are or were trying to do?

VS9 and MF4
What I was trying to do is use VS9 to create video files because VS9 has far more editing and effect features then MF4. In VS9 the "share" option gives you several choice of video output. One is MPEG2, another is NTSC DVD (another MPEG2 format) I then wanted to pull those files into MF4 because MF4 has dvd menu features that VS9 does not have. (such as free move of menu items) I always rended an MPEG format one to look at it (takes alot less time) MF4 will import those but the quality is not there for making a DVD of it.
I purchased the upgrades from element 5 and did not order a cd with it.
(both VS9 and MF4 are upgrades from previous versions)
There was a quirky thing that happened with VS9 but thats another issue.

I rendered out a DVD Mpeg2 from VS9. Then imported that into MF4. Created my project, and MF4 used it "asis" (no re-encoding). So everything seems to be working fine with the two applications on the same machine...
In your MF preferences, do you have it set for the proper format (i.e. NTSC or PAL)
Do you have the "Do no convert compliant..." option checked (hit that little gear icon)

The other "quirky thing"
Since MF4 would not import the MPEG2 files I ended up using VS9 to make the DVD menu and to finish the project. (as I posted I wanted to use MF4 to make the menus since it has more features)
Naturally VS9 imported the MPEG2 files without a problem (it should...it rendered them) created the menus and it did its thing, except when it came to the part "burning the target disc" it just sat there and never burned the disc. the time counter kept ticking but it did nothing. I did have the option checked "create ISO image" so I aborted it and it did create the image. I then used my burning sofware to make the DVD disc from the image. I did not have any personal folders added to the project (would have been too large) and I was burning a single layer disc (4.7 gig) I made the ISO image because I was making 5 copies of this project and it would be a snap to make the other 4 copies after I checked out the finished DVD. Its a minor problem
as for MF4 settings It was default settings I assume NTSC and as for "do not convert complient files" was probably not checked. but that shouldn't matter for the problem of not seeing the MPEG2 files as valid video files. (even if i was setup for PAL it should convert then for rendering) It will import MPEG1 files made from VS9 but the resolution is smaller.
for what its worth: the system I am using.
