From my experience with the trial version, I would say don't bother downloading it. Instead, just buy the full version, as long as you can get a 30-day money back guarantee.
The performance of the trial version is terrible if you want to do anything with MPEG-4 containing the h.264 video codec.
Also, you might get the impression that Stereoscopic 3D was dropped from VideoStudio because there aren't any menu items for 3D, disabled or enabled.
After buying the full version, of course everything that worked poorly in the trial version now worked very well, and 3D was still there.
I think a lot of potential buyers will be "turned off" because of the trial version. Corel should drop the trial version if they are going to present it with bad, misbehaving performance. They could have saved me much time that I spent trying to figure out what was wrong.

Re: About performance of VS X8 trial version
I'm afraid we would all agree with you. We have no real idea as to why they put out such a limited trial version this time round, and we have speculated that it was because of monetary pressures. In effect they left out anything which is subject to licensing fees they would have to pay to companies like Dolby. The only codecs available in the trial are the ones which came as part of Windows, and that of course does not include H.264. We have told Corel the same thing: that they be driving away potential customers rather than attracting them. But needless to say our words don't count for much in the corporate sense!

Hi Rob
I have passed this info to Corel, if they think the poor trial is impacting on sales maybe they will improve things, after all we believe the limitations are all to do with cost.
We can only keep on badgering them?
