Error (5213) while burning disc

Whenever I try to burn a disc (DVD or CD), I get the error

The target device might have some problems. Please try again later or reboot.
(5213)
======

When I click the OK buton, I get a second message
======
Failed to record data to the disc.
Error: SAO-2236-SPTI-2A-00-0000057. The parameter is incorrect.
======

I get the same error when I create an image file first and then try to burn it using the Ulead VCD/DVD Disc Image Recorder.

The DVD is functioning fine, as I can write discs from other applications (e.g. the tape-to-VCD application that came with the Sony camera)

Any ideas?

Do you happen to have the Nero InCD application installed (it's part of the general Nero suite)? Sometimes, that -- or similar packet-writing programs -- sometimes takes control of the burner and won't allow other programs to use it. If you do have InCD installed, try uninstalling it and then burning your disc.

No, I don't have Nero installed. The Sony camcorder software is installed and is able to burn a disc.
Would 5312 and "parameter is incorrect" point into the direction of disc-sharing problems?
