I want to put text on a black and white photo but the materials box comes up automatically with a grey scale type palette. How do I fix this to go back to regular colors?
Im using X2 by the way.

Sounds like the image isn't just black and white, but is actually a grey-scale image. To fix this you have to increase the color depth.
Image -> Increase Color Depth -> RGB 8-bit
Image -> Increase Color Depth -> RGB 8-bit
