Help ! canon vixia hf 10 AVCHD Files and video studio

Post by petermoon1969 »

Hi Everybody. I'm brand new to the forum and am in need of some help. I own Pinnacle studio 18 and I'm also working with the trial version of Videostudio X8. Pinnacle takes a lot more processor power - so I thought I might be better off using Videostudio since my laptop is a bit older.... Anyway, VS accepts files from my Kodak ZI8 with no trouble. Looks great sounds great. I also use a Canon Vixia HF10 for a second shot. This camera shoots in AVCHD files. VS imports the video - it looks great but there's no audio.

If I use Pinnacle, everything comes up fine, audio, video, both cameras. Anybody else using a Canon Vixia, or other AVCHD camera having similar issues? Solutions? I spoke to tech support - they tried to tell me it's bc the drivers on my video card are from 2012 and can't accomodate the HD. I can't believe that's accurate - bc Pinnacle runs the files no problem . And the files play in quicktime or windows media player with no problem.

I should also mention that I called Lenovo, who makes the Thinkpad T410s I'm using and they said I had the most recent driver installed already....

many thanks for helping out a newbie!

Welcome to the forums!

I'm afraid your problem is 99% certain to be because you are using the trial version of VS X8. For whatever silly reason, for the first time Corel has severely cut back the trial version, limiting its codec range to whatever comes as part of Windows. If the Vixia uses Dolby audio, then the trial version will not be able to play it as Dolby charges a licence fee for every program that uses it, so that is not included in the trial. The trial version in other words will only do the most basic things, and we don't know how Corel expects it to be able to attract customers in this day and age...

All I can say is that the full version has no difficulty with AVCHD in either the video or audio department, regardless of the audio format used.

Hi

A few years ago using VS X5 with my brand new Lenovo laptop I had lots of issues.
Now you would think a new pc would not require graphic driver updates how wrong I was.

http://lata.me.uk/corel/lenovo/lenovo.htm

This web page describes some of the problems I had, not that you are having the same.
Maybe think again about checking those drivers.

As Ken mentions the trial versions limitations does little to help editing or AVCHD.
But I would have thought they would play ok even with the reduced settings applied to the trial?
