Installation trouble with X8
I have had a lot of the same troubles that I see others report here- missing FX and transitions, things like that. I seem to have everything working and installed now, after a lot of trouble, most of it was when the program first came out and there wasn't many things here yet to help. Well, now I see that Audio Ducking does not work- I am wondering if I still don't have things installed right.
if I wanted to re-install everything and start over clean, should I un-install everything before going on? I still have X7 installed, and never did uninstall that so should I do that- uninstall X7 and X8 and try again?

Hi Mark
Can you try this……….
Start a new project, add a sample audio file to one of the sound tracks. (SP-M01.mpa)
Right click the clip, I see Audio Ducking available, what do you see?

Re: Installation trouble with X8
There is no reason to do that. They are independent of each other. Some of us maintain several versions on the same computer with no problems...I still have X7 installed, and never did uninstall that so should I do that- uninstall X7 and X8 and try again?

Re: Installation trouble with X8
Thank you fellas. Well, I did go ahead and uninstall X7, I read in the guide that is posted here as a sticky topic that it had caused some problems with X8 installing so I went ahead and got rid of it, installed X8 again too after uninstalling it. It looks like everything is there but Audio Ducking still will not work. this makes me wonder what else is not functioning right.
I can place an audio file in the music track, click on it and Audio Ducking is there, click on that and the screen comes up with the sensitivity and ducking sliders....when I click Ok, this just goes away and there is no effect. I can see the WAV file and the volume levels, and when it does work right you can see the ducking shown there, but I have nothing.

Re: Installation trouble with X8
I am not sure from your post whether you are using it properly - the audio only "ducks" when you add narration - as you add the narration - are you recording narration ?

Re: Installation trouble with X8
Hi Mark
I think it may be working, but you also need a video clip in the main / top video track for Audio Ducking to compare to sound file, then it should set fades on the actual audio file.
Just adding the sound file at least showed that Audio Ducking is available.
Press F1 for the X8 help files, search for Audio Ducking
The problem with X7 and X8 was specific to Boris Graffiti or some of the New Blue filters? I don’t think that would affect Audio Ducking.

Re: Installation trouble with X8
Thanks...I do understand how it works, and I have tried this on a different computer as well and got it to work just fine, first try.
I placed some video in the main track with narration on it. then I placed a sound file in the music track, I have used a test piece from the Samples and I have used a piece of "Smart Music" as well. When the narration hits a peak, the audio is supposed to "duck", and nothing happens.

Re: Installation trouble with X8
Be aware that the volume level of the main track needs to be high enough to trigger Audio Ducking and the Sensitivity needs to be set to a low number for it to work. AD will not respond to a low volume level in the main track.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Installation trouble with X8
Thanks, but no, it doesn't work. I remember seeing on the other computer where it DID work, after you have it set up and you set the sensitivity and the ducking levels and click OK, there is a brief rendering period. On my computer, there is no rendering, when you click Ok the settings box just goes away and that is the end of it- no ducking at all happens.

Re: Installation trouble with X8
Hi Mark
Are you able to provide the video used in the top track, then we can try using against the sample audios. If not the video create a sound file of the video, that will be smaller to upload.
Use Google Drive or Windows One Drive to upload your files.
It may be Monday before I can get back to you but sure Terfyn will give your files a test? At least we should be able to confirm a problem with your computer or the program itself.

Ah HA! It looks like I got it to work! Apparently my narration track was not hot enough to trigger the ducking. Once I used a track with a strong level then it worked. Thanks folks!
