Video Pixellation/Jumping VS X8

Post by I_Con »

Hi all,
I have downloaded a trial of X8 and put together a short 2:30min video comprising mostly of photos but also some snippets of video (all <10 sec).
The problem I am having is the video which is fine before going into VS, turns out very pixelated and jumps around a bit. At first I thought it would be ok after render but it doesnt change.
The source of the video is a GoPro 3 and a Canon EOS 7D SLR. The GoPro footage is the worst effected but the Canon footage, although not as bad is still affected. And I find as the more I edit the footage the worse it gets.
Photos are unaffected.
I have read that this could be because of variable frame rate, however I have put the GoPro footage through the GoPro editer numerous times with different settings and nothing changes.

All my searches have found that people are having a problem with this but no solutions are to be found.

I do like VS and find it easy to use and would buy it in a second if I could resolve this issue, I am hoping someone has a solution for this.

Thanks

Hi I_Con

And welcome to the forums

Unfortunately the trial version has been cut down by Corel, we think because of licencing issues, The limitations applied to the program only allow for Standard Definition project properties, as such your video displays as 720 x 576 (720 x 480), the original footage of 1920 x 1080 being drastically reduced along with playback quality.
I can only assume this is the reason for the pixilated playback.

Editing HD can be quite demanding and the use of Smart Proxy files will help with project playback, even so the 720 x 576 frame size is a problem for HD?
Other limitations, no burner module so we cannot burn any discs, no rendering to Bluray or Mpeg2 formats.

I own a Canon 7d and do need Smart Proxy enabled to help with editing.

Variable frame rates can cause problems for video editors, however I think GoPro uses a fixed rate as does the Canon 7d, afaik variable frame rates are created using tablets and phones and not suitable for editing.
There are variable data rates but that is a different attribute……

On the good side the full purchased version does seem to work well, I know Ken uses GoPro without problems.
You could purchase to test then if you are not satisfied use the 30 day money back guarantee, something you should not have to do.

You may be best to contact Corel via their facebook account to explain your concerns.
