Twitches in finished Bluray
For the first time I have rendered a video onto Bluray using VS Pro X5. It runs to about 1 hour 20 mins & consists of loads of photos & quite a few video clips, usually less than 1 minute long. In the finished Bluray, most of the video clips have a jump or twitch about 1 second after the transition into the clip. I don't think the type of transition makes any difference. The twitch looks like perhaps a frame or 4 have been missed out: the twitch is more pronounced if the video has more movement at that point. Most of the video clips are AVCHD Progresive 1920x1080, 50P, 28Mbps because that seemed to work well with the camera & the software. However, some of those clips refused to load into X5 so I converted them to MP4 & they then loaded happily. The MP4 clips in the completed Bluray don't seem to have the twitch! Should I convert the rest of the clips to MP4 or is the problem caused by something else?
Help please...

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
Hi John
Bluray disc standards support 1920 x 1080 x 25fps ( aka 50i)
Progressive video using 50P will have to be converted to 25fps to burn those discs.
I record using 25 fps to avoid rendering/converting the video from 50P
Even so there should not be a problem in doing that, just takes a little longer to render.
You should not need to convert to MP4, the Bluray disc will use MTS files (Transport Stream)
Did you set Enable 50/60 frame editing via settings, that will allow all frames to display on the timeline.
What is the format / properties of your original video files?
I don’t understand why some video files load and others not, are they the same format.

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
Thank you for the explanation Trevor.
I have changed the camera's video settings from 50p to 50i/25p as recommended. Does that mean having the wrong settings caused the twitches? Does the rendering involve converting from 50p to 50i & & the twitches happened because of the conversion? If I convert my existing videos from 50p first, might that cure the problem? If I use the MP4 files I have already converted, will that work? Format Factory doesn't seem to offer AVCHD conversion.
"Did you set Enable 50/60 frame editing via settings, that will allow all frames to display on the timeline." Answer: no - though I have now.
"What is the format / properties of your original video files?" Answer: AVCHD Progresive 1920x1080, 50P, 28Mbps. Now changed to AVCHD Progresive 1920x1080, 50i/25p, 24Mbps, though I've yet to record anything in that format. I'm off to Brazil next month, so I want the best results I can get for that trip. Though the camera allows recording in 4K, I see no point in recording in that format with nothing to view or edit it on!
The reference to "I don’t understand why some video files load and others not, are they the same format?" can be found at:
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55512
- a problem which occurred with the new camera & I still have no answer to. It remains to be seen if I have the same problem after Brazil using the different recording format...
Thank you
John

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
Hi John
I don’t think converting from 50p to 50i would cause those twitches, although not setting 50 / 60 frame editing may cause some issues.
There were some problems with twitches after transitions, but that was a while ago, don’t remember if it affected X5.
I have Panasonic 900 series camcorder, I did a few recordings using 50P, editing was no problem but using X7 and X8, but still needed to render to 25fps, quality was as good as recording to 25fps.
I think if I used a memory stick to save my files, then use that to playback on tv I would use 50P, discs require the lower frame rate, seems strange really.
Still haven’t made my mind up as to which is best 50P and convert or 25fps, not easy trying to make comparisons…………
As an aside….Transferring the files from the camera can be done using the Panasonic software or accessing the camera as a removable drive, then copy and paste to the pc, assuming the camera saves to memory and not tape?
The files extension would change from M2TS to MTS I think?
Did you try both options for those rouge files that would not load.
Format Factory, you could use the MPEG2 options, 1920 x 1080 choosing a suitable data rats 20,000ish. Not tried that myself.
Your best option is to upgrade to X8, I am pretty sure that would cope with your files allowing us to set project properties as AVCHD, unfortunately the Trial version is no good to you as it does not edit your MTS files, well you can edit but not create MTS nor burn any discs, I think it’s a big mistake on Corels part in restricting the trials capabilities.
If you can upload two video files, the rouge one and a good one, maybe use Windows One Drive or Google Drive. I assume you still have the bad files
I will test them on X8 for you, maybe try to id any problems or differences.
Your trip to Brazil, is that a wildlife holiday, I noticed your reference to Kenya in the other post.
My stepson is Brazilian, they fly over next week to visit his parents.

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
Yes it does. When you choose MP4 as your output format, a new screen appears where you place the clips you want to convert. At its top are four buttons, the first being Output Setting. If you click that, the top button allows you to choose between a variety of Profiles. I always choose AVC High quality and size. You will see in the details below it that it uses the AVCHD H.264 codec.Format Factory doesn't seem to offer AVCHD conversion.

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
Thank you Ken. I'll have a look again at Format Factory.
Thank you too Trevor. Yes, Brazil is a wildlife holiday - The Pantanal. We've been before, but missed seeing a jaguar. Perhaps we'll be luckier this time!
I now have the shortest of the the videos that wouldn't load into VS ready to stick on my little website (if I can work out how to do it again!). I have copied the file from the SD card directly as an MTS file & thru' the Panasonic software as an m2ts file. I'll also upload a short m2ts file that worked.
I'm feeling bit smug now! I seem to have successfully uploaded 3 video files onto my crude little website: http://www.imixmics.plus.com/Kenya.html. They're down the bottom of the page under the couple photos from my Kenya holiday. The first is one of the files that refused to load into X5 at all. Secondly is the mts version of the same video - I haven't tried to see if that will load into X5. Finally there's a short m2ts video that loaded with no complaints.
Thank you

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
I also got that error. As for the first file ('Would not load'), it downloaded OK and played just fine in VLC Player. But it would not load into X8!
When I tried to insert it in the library, I got the message in the image below; and a file format mismatch error when I tried inserting it into the timeline.
VLC's codec information shows it appears to be absolutely normal AVCHD, 50 fps, 1920 x 1080, 28 Mbps bitrate and Dolby audio. The file inserts into, and plays correctly, in Cyberlink Power Director 13. PD 13 shows the same Properties as VLC, though it says the bitrate is 27.18 Mbps.
The third video ('Video that loaded happily') indeed loaded happily into X8. It had the same properties as the above, apart from a slightly lower bitrate of 26.49 Mbps (though PD 13 said 26.93 Mbps). So I am at a loss to know what is going on here...

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
The first file ("would not load") I believe was "passed" through the Panasonic software and propably introduced some metadata that VS does not like.
It worked just fine using my Roxio Creator.
What we really need is the unmodified clip direct from the SD card

Hi
Same here, Cannot download "Direct version of Video that wouldn't load"
Media info shows the problem file as using Constant data rate whereas Variable is used for the good file,
I don't know if that is the difference, nor whether the camera should have created a Constant rate?
By the way cannot open that file in any version of Video Studio.

And what Mediainfo show?
There is much more to a file than just dimensions and data rate.

So sorry. Pride before a fall etc.. I was so smug, I forgot to check all 3! It seems to work now - some problem with upper/lower case I think.
That middle file is direct from the camera's SD card.

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
Hi
I managed to convert the clip using Format Factory to MP4:-
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 50 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 26485 Kbps, 16:9
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 189 Kbps
This loaded to VS with no apparent problems.
Converted using Super to similar settings as original. M2TS
However there is a problem with playback, the video pauses for a second, then plays to end of timeline but continues to play for another second? Maybe Super is detecting something wrong with that file.
At least Format Factory seems to work well.
By the way nice images, just takes a while to load?
Were they screen grabbed from your video or still images?

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
I used Format Factory to convert the original 6 videos that wouldn't load into MP4 & used them that way. I have already changed one good m2ts video into MP4 that had the biggest twitch after rendering, to see if it will render twitch free next time. I haven't had a problem with VS playback and I've used both MP4 & m2ts files mixed with dozens of stills - until I rendered the project, as mentioned at the top of this topic.
All the pictures are from original stills. Screen grabs from movies are good & I'm using a few in the final DVD. I'm very impressed with the FZ1000 results, considering it's basically a bridge camera. Sorry about the size of the pictures. I've just gone on to fibre broadband & it all happens pretty quickly here...

Re: Twitches in finished Bluray
Just received a minor ticking off from PlusNet: I've slightly exceeded my webpage size limit!
Let me know when you no longer need the videos & I'll delete them. I've removed one of the stills for now to make myself legal again.
Actually, I've just realised they complained about yesterday - I've added loads of stills today - oops!
Just deleted the ok m2ts file off the site too. Hope that makes me legal!
Thank you
John
