No audio

Post by ct valley views »

I have been making DVDs for our local Public Access station with no problem. They now have made available a method to send files via Google Drive that they can download.
The issue is there is no audio when they download. attached are the requirements they have,
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Bill Regan

I don't quite understand your process.

Are they uploading files to google drive and then you dowload those files from google drive. Then you create the DVD from those files you downloaded?

I upload the MPEG to GD. They then download their server.
The DVDs are a separate issue as I send them to be loaded in their system. That works OK.

If you right click on one of the downloaded mpeg-2 files in the VS timeline, in Properties is anything shown for the audio? I ask since you apparently live in North America. Yet mpeg layer 2 audio has never been popular there. In fact, it is not part of the NTSC DVD standard. That being said, I am pretty sure that Video Studio contains the mpeg layer 2 codec since it *is* part of the HDV specification -- in fact it is the only audio for the international HDV standard. What I am less sure about is whether it is available in VS when used with standard definition mpeg-2 since VS no longer shows it as an option for DVDs. What version of VS are you using, by the way? And does the audio play if you run it in a media player like WMP or VLC?

Does the AAC audio associated with the mp4's play when downloaded?

That's a very large file to download. Couldn't you cut it down substantially and upload just a small segment?

I downloaded the file from GoogleDrive. It plays with audio just fine using VLC and WMP. Also works fine with VS X7 as well as another video editor I use.

The problem it seems is at "their"end.

I finally downloaded it too, and yes it played in everything I tried it on, including both X8 and X7, WMP and VLC. More to the point, the audio in it is Dolby AC-3 and not mpeg layer 2. This makes me think that you are using the trial version of X8 which does not include Dolby for licensing reasons.

I am using VS 7. There are only 2 choices for audio-Dolby Digital Audio and LPCM.
Their requirements are shown in an above email.

Hi

There seems to be some confusion in aspect ratio.

The camera would record to 16:9 ratio, yet the downloaded sample is using 4:3, having a black bar top and bottom to fill the 4:3 frame.

I would have thought you needed to render the originals to Mpeg 2 16:9 and LPCM audio.

I render the original to 16:9 AVCHD for upload to our YouTube channel. I then take that and render to 4:3 for the PATV stations-they don't do HD yet.
