The Python tutorials I found on line are not tremendously helpful as there are apparently many variants of the language. I finally arrived at the desired results from much searching, applying some awk-like statements in a monkey-see, monkey-do method.
I agree that creating scripts from scratch is not a simple or intuitive process for someone not versed in Python. However, there are some users who are quite adept at it and willing to help create scripts when requested, and in the "old days" on the newsgroup there was a fair amount of activity in the scripting group.

The main advantage is for those with rudimentary or perhaps a bit more knowledge of scripting (I'm in the second category but not anywhere adept :-) ). The "Record Script" feature makes it easy for anyone to record not only simple scripts and some that can achieve quite a lot by a bit more complicated. But for even more complicated ones I can often look at scripts created by others and see how they have been able to implement steps that I want to achieve and then use that code snippet, modifying as necessary for my specific needs. When I can't find what I need then I ask and usually others provide the step I need, and I can usually use that new info with more than one script I may create in future. For something really complicated people often point me to where a template can be found - Gary Barton's Pause script is a great example of that, and something I could never have done myself - but it's a very useful add-on to some scripts!

So I see a scripting group as a way to have one place that would allow real scripters a place to show their stuff and share if they like, while providing valuable assistance to those of us who are less talented but willing to learn some basics that improve the PSP workflow experience. There can be a lot of finicky steps required in image editing and processing, and with PSP's workspace being so easy to customize I find that using bound scripts cuts down tremendously on clicking menus and/or various buttons located all over the place to complete repetitive tasks.

Well I've finally pulled my finger out and set up the 'PSP Scripting' sub-forum by popular demand... It should appear above the list of posts to the main PSP forum when you open that page. I've given it standard permissions so all registered users should be able to access it. Please let me know, however, if you can't see or access it.

Thank you Ken! Levi Fiction has started off the sub-forum with a bang by posting links to various scripting resources. Now I guess I'm going to have to live up to my commitment to scour the PSP forum for posts related to scripting questions and answers and scripts posted by others and then post the links in a new subject on the Scripting sub-forum. :-)

When posting links to a script that has been provided I was thinking that I should post a link to the original post where the script creator had posted it (giving credit to that poster) as well as posting a link directly to the script as provided by the original poster. If that is not the appropriate way to do this then I ask anyone to please chime in with the best method.

Having said that, what I want to do is make my post to the sub-group a collation of all of the disparate script questions, responses and posted scripts that are scattered throughout the PSP forum so that people who now visit the Scripting sub-forum will have all of that information available without having to do what I did when I first looked for scripts - i.e., using the search option and trying to sift through the results and then separate the wheat from the chaff as they say. :-)

Joe -- that sounds fine, though I recalled we had a scripting post here a couple of days ago, so I have already transferred that to the new forum. If you want to think about it, another possibility would be for you to scour the forum for scripting threads and pass them to me, and I can transfer the whole thread to the new forum if that would be useful.

I just saw your transferred post and that's a good idea. I'm considering only being concerned with posts that actually provide useful info regarding scripting and, sort of separately, posts that actually provide scripts or script snippets or links to scripts that people have requested to achieve certain results. I'll perhaps PM you with what I get (once I get it all together) and then you can make the final determination as to what you think is the best way to handle all of it so that it's most useful to users looking for info and scripts.
