Any way to add script to Plugins menu?

Post by JoeB »

I'm wondering if there is a way to bind a script somehow and be able to add it to the Effects>Plugins menu. I'm using those wonderful scripts that open several Nik plugins in X7 on my Win 8.1 machine and thought it would be great if they could show up in the plugins menu instead of just the Scripts dialogue. TIA!

Sure, just bind the script and then right-click -> Customize -> Scripts Tab and then drag the icon for the bound script to the Effects menu and drop it where you want it.

Thanks for the quick response! It's been awhile since I bound a script (had PSP9 for years and it's been completely customized for most of those years :-) ) so I'll now go and give it a try. If I recall correctly, you couldn't actually put a name to a bound script, just an icon. Just in case, would there be a way to do that in X7?

Did the Boundscript thing for the three Nik plugin scripts I use and was able to add them to the Effects menu - and they DO show the name of the script beside the icon so that's great! However, I could only add them to the Effects menu, not the Plugins sub-menu which would be my preference. But at least I've moved them to be directly under the Plugins sub-menu and just above the Last Used Plugin item so it's definitely a great improvement to having to use the Scripts dropdown to access those plugins.

I did some searching and apparently there doesn't seem to be a way to create custom icons for the bound scripts. If you or anybody knows a workaround for this limitation I'd love to hear it! TIA.

Glad you were able to get the script icons somewhat close to where you wanted them. Sorry, I don't know of a way to do custom icons but I do know others have asked for this so maybe some day if we are all good and eat our vegetables Corel will give us that capability. :D

I'm no programmer but one would think that those existing icons must reside somewhere within PSP or Windows once the program is installed. If that was the case then you'd think you could just grab them and modify them. But maybe they just exist in the ether somewhere?? :-)

It is not a difficult task for a Corel's programmer to permit the user to switch between the original icon script and a personal incon created for this purpose (like the gradient tool permitting to modify a gradient and to register it and use it inside PSP).
If Corel's staff understands that this possibility will be a major improvement over its competitor (PhotoShop Elements) and could be presented in the marketing stuff as a "plus", perhaps could we obtain this feature.
