how do i UNregister PSP/Aftershot/etc?

Post by giantbucket »

i have PaintShopPro X6, AfterShot Pro, ScreenCap X6, and VideoStudio Pro X6 - all bought at the same time and all installed on my first machine (call it PC1)

i need to install all of that on a whole different machine (call it PC2), since PC1 is getting a different OS installed and will be used for different purposes. all machines belong to me 100%.

how can i unregister the products so that i can re-use the keys and not waste them? i believe i only get 3 registration keys, so i really don't want to "burn" the first key and already be using my second key, even if there's still only one machine with the software on it.

The EULA for PSP allows you to install the program on up to 3 computers, though you are only supposed to use one at any one time. So there is no problem for you with that program.

The EULAs for Video Studio and ASP, however, only allow installation on one machine. Frankly, I don't know how to go about unregistering a program with Corel. I also don't understand what you mean by getting 3 registration keys. Do you mean that you can only register the same program up to 3 times, or something else? In any case, I have installed the same version of Video Studio a number of times, certainly more than 3, and gone through the registration process every time, and received the acknowledgment email from Corel each time. So I really don't think you need to be looking over your shoulder too hard for the copyright police!

Ken,

yes, I know that I can install on up to 3 computers, and that's kind of what I was getting at with the "keys" wording. In essence, I don't want to burn a key for the first machine (PC1) since I'm not going to use the program on that. So I certainly don't want to install PSP on the new machine (PC2) and end up using up 2 of my 3 allowed machines. I need to be able to "free up" that first registration. It's not about watching over my shoulder or EULA police. It's what I paid for, so I would like to know how to actually use it.

Now, having said that, if I simply UNinstall all the apps from PC1 is that going to automatically tell Corel that the first "license" is being freed up? Apple and Adobe make this type of "unregister" or "deauthorize" process extremely simple - one or two clicks and it's done. So, how does it work with Corel?

the absolute LAST thing I want is to try to install and register all the programs on the new machine, and then have a window pop up saying that I can't because it's already in use on another machine. and then invariably I have to call corel and either pay $20 for support or buy another license???

Corel don't permit deregistering their software you buy.

But there have been posts elsewhere where people have changed computer a number of times and ran out of installs and so have been able to contact Corel (someway) and been able to get another installation.
Still not sure but can you do more than the three installs if you have a disk version?
I have purchased 2 versions of each version except PSP 8 (disc) and X3 (disc) . I have installed on three separate hard drives on my desktop (Xp, Win7, Win8.1) as well as three laptops. (Actually another laptop which failed also had them on it so that would exceed the number of 3 each)
Strange thing is that the registration info on Corel for each version is very odd.

Variations in named product and even the same product -see X5 and what is X6 - Empty Box??? Apparently I have registered an empty box. ???
My list seems to be a very strange concoction Asian, Dutch, Empty Box, Global Upgrade such a mixture for something that should be very simple. No wonder Corel is having problems when there seems no consistency in Registrations.
The table shows the last 4 letters of the registration code and the Comment column shows the type of install from download or Disc.

I don't know for recent versions.

I'm helping some people in Africa and they don't have an internet connexion to register. They don't have money for international call or paid service. I've send an original genuine box with disc and they were grateful. I suppose they have more than 3 installs done... (private school with computers given by european organization).
