Lost all my ProDAD stuff

Post by trailryder42 »

I was working on a video today in VS8 and after editing it for length and all, I was going to stabilize it with Mercalli like I always do, only to see that it's no where to be found. Actually, all of the ProDAD stuff is missing. I click on the FX button where that stuff is usually found and its not there. I made sure to select ALL in the dropdown list.

This is the first editing session after rolling back the Nvidia video drivers to 337.88 from the newest 347.88 I was running previously. Did so to see if the older drivers did indeed enable hardware acceleration like has been talked about.

Could the older drivers be incompatible with the ProDAD stuff and that's why I can't find them in VS?

VS has been crashing a lot since rolling back the drivers, but I don't know if that's because of the drivers or what I was asking of VS to do. I loaded 2 Gopro videos of biking. One forward view and the other rear view. I put one in the regular video timeline and the other in the overlay timeline and edited them so they are in time with each other. With the overlay track being a small picture in picture down in one corner of the main track. Scrubbing thru the time line and playback has really been stuttery. The worst performance I've had out of VS.

Don't know if its drivers or that I'm asking too much of the program for my hardware.

I don't know about the compatibility of older graphics drivers with the proDAD filters, but rather doubt that is your problem. You should first try going to to C:\Users\[Your Name]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro [x64] and change the name of the 18.0 folder to 18.0_Old. Then restart X8 and that folder should be rebuilt, with the proDAD filters showing again.

I also don't know about your problem with the GoPro footage, but running mp4 high def with picture-in-picture is pretty demanding of computer resources. Have you actually rendered that footage to a final video? If so, does the rendered video play smoothly?

No, haven't rendered yet since I haven't been able to stabilize it yet.

I'll try the renaming folder thing.

Thanks.

I wasn't necessarily suggesting you finalise your project just yet. Rather, I was suggesting you might want to render it as it is now just to reassure yourself whether or not the final video will come out smooth.

If it doesn't, then I would suggest you start using SmartProxy with your mp4's... As you may be aware, that will make a standard def copy ("proxy") of your high def originals, which will be easier and smoother to edit. Then when you are satisfied, the edits are applied back to the originals. You need to be a bit patient, though, as creation of the proxy files takes a little while.

Thanks Ken. I always use Smart Proxy. I verify they are smart proxy by the little icon in the top left of the thumbnail.

I did the renaming folder trick and it rebuilt the 18 folder like you said. All is back. I guess I can delete the 18_old folder now.

I make a new media folder named Gopro and import my Gopro files there. It's weird, after one of the crashes and I realized my ProDAD stuff was gone, I also noticed the thumbnail for the overlay track was not showing up but the thumbnail for the main track was still there. Yet the overlay track video was still in the timeline.

After getting my ProDaD stuff back and run on the project, it seems to have rendered out fine.
