Re: [After ASP 2.2] What is your 3 most needed functions?
I love AfterShot, and use it for 90% or more of my image adjustments. Unlike most of the other posters, I haven't downloaded and installed any plugins, and use the built-in features only.
ONE: As others have mentioned, a gradient tool would be a great addition. What good is a regional adjustment if there's a distinct line between it and the surrounding image?
TWO: For me, the next most important feature is accurate color management. When a bride spends a month picking out the perfect colors for the bridesmaid's dresses, she want those exact colors in the prints.
Yes, ASP can use ICC input profiles, but where are the tools to create a custom profile for your unique camera, lens, and lighting scenario? I just purchased the Datacolor SpyderCheckr target, and hope to use the HSL adjustment values produced by their software to jerry-rig a custom color profile in ASP. It would be great if there was a tool to use this and other standard color charts for accurate color management.
Also, related to the above, when I set a specific Kelvin temperature in my camera (Nikon D800), ASP doesn't report that number when importing the image. In fact, ASP, PaintShopPro, and Photo-Paint all report different and seemingly random numbers for this.
THREE: My third request would be to allow the various panes in the sidebars to be ordered to preference.

You can generate custom profiles for AS. Basically you use the mechanism described here:AlanT wrote:Yes, ASP can use ICC input profiles, but where are the tools to create a custom profile for your unique camera, lens, and lighting scenario? (I've described it also in my book)
Color temperature numbers are not absolutes. Also, related to the above, when I set a specific Kelvin temperature in my camera (Nikon D800), ASP doesn't report that number when importing the image. In fact, ASP, PaintShopPro, and Photo-Paint all report different and seemingly random numbers for this.
The latest version of AS already supports this for the tools.THREE: My third request would be to allow the various panes in the sidebars to be ordered to preference.
But you can also use the good old customtools.ui hack described here: http://flightofthebibbles.blogspot.de/2 ... -tabs.html
also described in my book)
cheers

1. Grad Filter (Grad layer tool would be even better) and asGPS incorporated into ASP.
2. Unlimited number of actions in adjustment layers. Fed up of having a bad day with dust, only to find that I can't remove them all due to limitations and have to export to GIMP as Paintshop Pro is not supported in Linux.
3. A way that records all actions that you can go to and click the action that you have performed and toggle between off and on. Nothing worse that doing 10 separate actions and decide action number 2 is not required.
Also the Corel site needs a page that tells you when thing will be incorporated and next schedule release. For example Sony A7RII has been out a while and it hasn't been incorporated yet. When are we expecting it

Re: [After ASP 2.2] What is your 3 most needed functions?
1. Grad Filter is critical in processing most images that has some sort of sky and horizon.
2. A before and after view without creating another version or turning on history and click back and forth. I just want a dual view of before and after.
3. A way to share/buy more presets.

1) Gradient tool
2) Gradient tool
3) Better denoiser
I am still running 2.1.2.10 because of Gradfilter. I find the release notes confusing: will Gradfilter work in 2.2.2.70 (32 bits) ?

Unfortunately there isn't any GradFilter or similiar tools running on ASP 2.2.X. The developer seems to have abandoned the plugin and Corel hasn't made one yet...Franz Dur wrote:I am still running 2.1.2.10 because of Gradfilter. Re: [After ASP 2.2] What is your 3 most needed functions?
Thank you for the info, it is saddening.
Apart from the handling of raw from newer camera (which is not my problem) does 2.2 offer an improvement in image quality. I do not speak about ease of use, but basic image quality? I know I can use layers to +/- mimic Gradfilter but it is it is much more time consuming than a few clicks in the Grad plugin...

1. Skin softening brush similar to lightroom.
2. A gradient tool.

Something else too...I would love to see a simplified printing mode. I have more trouble trying to print with ASP2 with boxes popping up, etc. and am never able to print through ASP2 and I end up having to print through Apple's Photos program. Fix and simplify the printing mode please!

Re: [After ASP 2.2] What is your 3 most needed functions?
Like many others I asked for a gradient tool. I don't think it will ever come.
And I don't mind, I use now the gradient tool which comes in Color Efex Pro from the NIK suite. It works very well, at least as well as Gradfilter Pro, it integrates easily with ASP and it is free.

Re: [After ASP 2.2] What is your 3 most needed functions?
1. Stop chasing lens correction data and wasting cycles trying to keep ASP updated -- just make ASP compatible with http://lensfun.sourceforge.net/lenslist/ and call it a day. The data is already crowdsourced...
2. External filter support (like the many that Photoshop can point to, or the now-free Nik filters, for example).
3. Drag and drop right-panel plugins. If I want to change workflows a little and have a different 3 or 4 most-common-used plugins, it would be so much easier to drag them around instead of having to un-pin and re-pin them all over again in the order I want.

1 and 2, I definitely agree on. 3 would be a nice addition. I think Darktable has something like this, but it would make ASP even more faster and user friendly than it already is.

Re: [After ASP 2.2] What is your 3 most needed functions?
I'm loving ASP so far, but the only thing that gets under my skin a little bit is not being able to reorder pinned items in the right panel, but I'm really digging the direction the interface is taking. I'm excited to see the next incarnation, cheers!
