RGB Channel work

Post by pluMmet »

I have Paintshop Pro X6...

I can't seem to get my RGB (and alpha) edits to remain once I save out the .tga?

It is no problem in PS so this is driving me crazy.. what am I doing wrong?

Here is what I am trying to accomplish http://media.steampowered.com/apps/dota ... kGuide.pdf

I have been splitting the RGB doing my work then combining them only to find out when I reload them image and split it the work is gone.

Help!

This will sound like a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway, so I do apologize.

Since "Combine RGB" creates a brand new image (does not combine it back to the same image) are you saving out this new image under a different filename? Or are you overwriting the old one? Also did you close the old one before saving the new one?

I have adhered to all your suggestions. Thanks for responding :)

Can you take and image split it into RGB then make the (G)reen totally black with a fill or something,; combine them; save it; reopen and split it and see that the (G)reen is still black?

You assumed I was stupid but you did not raise the bar quite high enough lol

It was compressing the red channel into all 3... Doh!

Not even sure why you would want that option?

I still can't get the alpha channel to accept any proper paste and edit.

Is there a tutorial that someone can like to show me how... I've look a fair bit and seen lots of alpha channel stuff but nothing like what I need (as seen in my linked .pdf)

I didn't assume you were stupid. I assumed my question was stupid.

PSP doesn't work directly with alpha layers. You have to save either a mask or a selection to the alpha channel. Also, TGA files inside of PSP can only save 1 alpha channel per image. So make sure you're not making multiple alpha channels or else they'll be lost when you hit the Save button.

So here's how you do it.

1) Duplicate the current layer

2) Add a new mask layer with Show all

3) Select the mask layer inside the layers palette.

4) Hit Ctrl + A to select everything.

5) Copy the alpha channel image into the selection Edit -> Paste Into Selection

6) Deselect everything.

7) Layers -> Load/ Save Mask Layer -> Save mask layer to alpha channel.

And you're done.

If you made a mistake or want to replace the alpha channel go to Image -> Delete Alpha Channel to remove the old one. And repeat the steps above to make a new one.
