Actually, as far as I know, my video adapter does not have any GPU. At least that's what I told to the computer shop guy when selecting the configuration for my computer. Nor does my CPU have any hardware acceleration for video. So, in fact, I don't expect any effect of hardware acceleration on my computer
A Video card must contain a GPU otherwise it wouldn't be a video card :) the one in your profile is capable of hardware acceleration if the program using it is programmed correctly. If that's the case in x5 and isn't in x8 that seems a likely reason for the slower performance. Switching off HW acceleration in x5 may bring the performance down to the level of x8 which would prove the point.

If Sonic67's info is correct this is clearly going to be an issue for anyone with the nVidia cards with the new drivers. He posted the same info on the Pinnacle forum as well.

If you download that driver, you can extract them yourself.
Or you can use my own zippyshare link (linked also above):

And yes, Corel owns both Pinnacle and VideoStudio, and made the same mistake in both programs. Well... is not really a mistake, more like a negligence to update the software.

As a side-note, Cyberlink did the same, but at least they issued a "fix" eventually.

I've checked, the default hardware acceleration options were the same in X8 and X5 - they were enabled only for editing, not for file conversion. So the reason for X5 being faster is not hardware acceleration.
So is there anybody else who can compare the file conversion speed of X8 with any older version? (Specifically for creating MP4 files because that is the case where I observed a large difference in the conversion speed).

I realize this Thread is a few months old now, but I have the exact issue with an AMD GPU and was wondering if anyone knows of similar workarounds/issues with those (most here were talking about NVIDIA GPUs).

I have an AMD R9 280 3GB and VSPx8 doesn't work too slowly, it seems ok, but playback in the Preview Window becomes pixellated and choppy/laggy when playing back the Timeline in Project mode.

Edit:
And it is VERY SLOW IN RENDERING... a three-minute Project took 8 hours to render (when using NewBlue Titler text elements, it did not take that long with 'regular' Text added)

I have Enabled all of the Hardware Acceleration options in the Preferences and did not see an increase in Performance or Playback, although I did get the "HD" button/icon appearing after that, below the Preview window (this pixellation and choppyness does not occur when in Clip mode). I even tried to Enable the Smart Proxy function, but it did not make any difference.
Project Properties are the same as the video material: 1920x1080 MJPEG with PCM audio.
This is with a brand-newly purchased and installed VSPx8, happy to be an owner of this great software otherwise

(As a comparison, I find that PowerDirector seems to take advantage of the GPU quite well and has no such problems with Playback of the Preview, it comes through as Full HD, crisp and fast, even with multiple effects and overlays; although I would like to use VSP for some of the Features it has over PowerDirector ...sorry to name a competitor.)

Just wondering if anyone has encountered this or has any ideas for AMD GPU owners. Thanks
