Corel have replied to Kens request for a fix and are asking for a sample video so they can try to replicate the problem

Can you provide a sample Mov, obviously one that is causing the freeze, maybe upload to Microsoft One Drive,

For Video Studio X7 Corel did provide a hot fix, not sure it will fix your actual issue but worth a try.
Download the file from my One Drive.
Make a copy of the existing .dll file, then paste the new file.
If things get worse return to the original dll.
