VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
I have a project that includes a mix of AVI and HD MOV files (from iPhones). When I attempt to export it to any file type (DVD, mp4, AVI), it begins to export and then hangs up; never finishing. It usually hangs up at different levels of progress, from 96% to 5%.
The original program is 90 mins. I've also tried a 30 min version that also fails. I also tried adding one AVI and one MOV to a timeline and exporting that and it worked fine.
What can I do to get this project exported? I have put a lot of time into it!
Thankyou!

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
Where did the AVI files come from? I ask since there are over 800 widely different formats which call themselves AVI -- which is really only a wrapper extension. Can you please right click on one of the AVI clips in the VS timeline and copy ALL its Properties here, or take a screen shot of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment.
Could you also do the same thing for one of the .mov files. Unfortunately, some very recent smartphones have started using a form of .mov and mp4 which includes variable framerates instead of the standard 25/50 fps (PAL) or 30/60 (NYSC), and VS can't handle them. They have to be first converted with a third party video converter to a more standard mp4 or .mov before they can be edited in VS.
What version of Quicktime do you have on your computer as that is what is also required to play .mov files properly?

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
Ken,
Thanks so much for the help.
The AVI files are from a Canon SD870IS point and shoot camera. The MOV files are from two iPhone 5. Properties for both are attached.
My Quicktime version is 7.7.6

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
Just rendered a 20 minute project using using only the AVIs in my project--no issues.
Did a similar project with MOV and it stalled at 1%.
So disappointing as that's the whole reason I bought the program. It said he could do iPhone video. Not to mention the fact that I put about 6-7 hours into putting this program together.

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
I can't understand why the .mov files are giving you a problem as they have absolutely standard AVCHD properties, though using the .mov extension rather than .mpg or even .mts or .mp4... Quite a few people here use .mov footage from still cameras and smartphones with no problems.
One thing you might want to try is to simply change the extension of a couple of the .mov files to .mpg, then make a new project with those clips and see if it will render.
Other than that, all I can suggest is that you try using a third party video converter to convert the .mov clips to "standard" mpeg-4. Some of us here use a free converter called Format Factory which does a great job. Just be careful when installing, it though, to decline its offer to install various kinds of junk software at the same time....

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
SOLVED: After scouring the message boards I found this idea that worked. I uninstalled VideoStudio and when I re-installed it, I did not install Service Pack 1. I can now render my projects with no issues.
There is about 5-10 mins at 99% where the program is "not responding" according to the task manager. But if I leave it alone, it finishes.

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
Is this a recommended practice? I have a video that keeps hanging up at 30% and the only way to get out of it is to task manager out and restart Corel all together. I'm almost wondering if doing this would clear up the continuing problem that I cannot get past for the last month now using the sound mixer to adjust volume levels of clips at different points. Does the same thing... freezes Corel entirely.

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
I had similar problem. I had multiple pictures and clips from iPhone, HTC M8 One Phone, Go Pro , Sony Camcorder in one project. One of the clips from HTC phone would cause rendering to crash. I ended up using GoPro's free software to convert that one clip to AVI which solved my problem. GoPro software does a very good job in batch file conversion and it is FREE.
I have been using VideoStudio for a very long time and it is disappointing to see rendering issues in the current version.

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
Some recent smartphones have started using variable frame rates instead of the standard 25/50 fps (PAL) or 30/60 (NTSC). These cause VS to crash as it is looking for more standard frame rates. It would be interesting to see if your HTC is doing this, and GoPro Studio might be converting it to a more standard frame rate.

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
When I was trying to zero in on the issue, I looked at propieties of all files from HTC, and they were all the same and the frames were at 30 FPS. If I ever come across this, converting to a avi, will be my first move.

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
I have the same problem with .mts files.
VideoStudio x7 Ulimate (with the service pack) completely freezes and appears as "not responding" in the task manager.

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
I have just hit this hang-up problem on VSX7 with .MOV files from a camera which were recorded at 1920x1080 with frame rate 29 f/s; also some 1280x720 ones at the same frame rate didn't hang up but just bombed out after a short while without an error message. Both work fine at X6 which I retained when I upgraded to X7. Has anyone tried their hanging-up renders on X8 or bugged the X7 fault to Corel, otherwise I'm inclined to try and bug it to Corel even though it's now X8, especially as they only sold the X7 upgrade to me in September last year?

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
As I have already said in response to two similar complaints last week, I referred the issue to Corel who said they could replicate the problem. They are working on a solution and will make it available as soon as it's ready.

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
With respect, Ken, I have looked in recent threads for these similar problems but I can only see that you say Corel are working on a problem associated with empty or black videos. How does this relate to the issues stated in THIS thread which indicate a freeze (actually a loop of some description due to the CPU rate showing in TaskManager)? Have Corel said they can replicate this specific problem of a freeze/hang-up/loop, and do they say that it relates to VSX7 or is it fixed anyway in VSX8/8.5? Is the fix they are working on for VSX8/8.5 only? As I say, it works OK in VSX6. I have also updated QTP to the latest 7.7.8 (as you asked in another thread what version I had) and can confirm that it didn't improve things for the fault in VSX7.

Re: VideoStudio X7 hangs when rendering
You are correct that the other problem relates to black video but again from high def .mov clips. I have indeed referred your specific problem to Corel, though have not yet received a response to it given the difference in time between New Zealand, where I live, and Taiwan, where the relevant Corel exec lives.
I can only speculate that all these problems relating to the .mov format must have some common cause. Anyway, I have asked Corel if they could look at this new problem to see if the solution they are working on for the black video will also fix this. Other than that, though, I have no idea if any solution they might find will apply to X7 as well as X8/8.5, or only the latter.
