I imported clean video from my Android into VideoStudio, performed some simple deletion edits, and then exported it as Mpeg-4. The result was weird artifacts in the output --- the video is hardly watchable, and movements and pans are blurred with course pixelation. I know this is not a problem with my source because another video editing software package did exactly the same operation cleanly. I thought I'd missed some Mpeg-4 settings in the encoding, but there are no settings there.
So basically, VideoStudio is an absolute fraud. It crashed once during basic use, and the output is now useless... and I am doing the SIMPLEST video editing operations you can think of: just cutting out a few seconds of footage here and there.
The track view has a choice between showing sound-waveform or video. Surely I would want to see BOTH in order to choose a cut point???
The user interface is like something created by a highschool children's programming project. It has a hundred strange quirks and bizarrely arbitrary choices. Then there are many things that seemed almost designed to waist your time.
I cannot believe anyone would pay money for this crap.
Uninstalling.

Hi and welcome
I guess you gave X8 a thorough test. I have now created and edited three AVCHD videos with excellent results. Perhaps a bit more application?
I cannot believe anyone would pay money for this crap. - You did!

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Perhaps your expectations of quality are as childlike as your reaction.

My reaction was to your purile little rant - which was beneath contempt. I have used and tested VideoStudio for a number of years and found it an excellent editing package with every option I require. From your comments you have no idea how VS works so instead of learning how to use the package, you vent your ignorance on a Forum dedicated to the improvement of VideoStudio and aimed at helping other, more competent, users.paulsheer wrote:Perhaps your expectations of quality are as childlike as your reaction.

Re: VideoStudio X8 Mpeg4 artifacts and general comments
Does that Android footage have a variable frame rate?
Re: VideoStudio X8 Mpeg4 artifacts and general comments
Hi dtvp,
I don't know if it has a variable frame rate. It's a Galaxy Note II --- so it's a few years old. It's a very popular phone and it's OS is identical to the other Galaxy phones which are up there with the most popular phones.
So it's not like I'm using some cutting edge recording software that is not widely supported.
The footage exports fine with two other popular editing suites. I do the identical edits in both.
Here are my runs:
Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 -- puts a black border around your export. No pause button so it looses your place when you hit stop. No frame-advance button. Useless
Corel VideoStudio X8 -- crashes, Mpeg-4 export unwatchable. Doesn't show sound and video on the same track at the same time. Useless.
Cyberlink Powerdirector 13 -- Has a bug that jumps to the end of your movie every few minutes of editing - painful. Slow. Useless.
I'm guess that in the $50-$100 range I'm just wasting my time.

Re: VideoStudio X8 Mpeg4 artifacts and general comments
Hi
Video editors find it a problem editing variable Frame Rates. They may playback ok but editing is a different matter.
Are you able to upload a sample to a sharing site, windows One Drive seems to work well.
Then we can try on our pc’s, it may be that you have to use a converter to create a more editable format?

Re: VideoStudio X8 Mpeg4 artifacts and general comments
I am happy to help you if you are part of the C/C++ programmers team for a video editing software suite.
For myself, I notice some suites edit or export perfectly well, so my expectation is that all suits ought to edit and export perfectly well. Certainly whatever an apple or android spits out ought to edit and export.
I just want the name of a suite that has basic functionality that works. This means --
- pause button
- one-frame advance/back button
- default basic fade when I overlap the ends of a segment (not randomly chosen effects - corel)
- does not loose sync of the sound with the video (magix)
- shows sound wave and video on the same track at once
- "cut" action on a hotkey so i don't have to move my mouse across the screen to click on a button (which is SUCH an enormous waste of time)
- other actions on a hotkey
- arrow keys also move the cursor
- shows bookmarks on the horizontal scroll bar so i can easily find what i'm working on
is this difficult stuff to code????
I'm a programmer myself so I know it absolutely isn't difficult.

Its obvious you haven't used VS very much...paulsheer wrote:I am happy to help you if you are part of the C/C++ programmers team for a video editing software suite.

If you are a programmer and you know "it absolutely isn't difficult." why don't you do it. Nobody here is a Corel programmer or employee - this is a users forum
