Glitches appearing after overlays

Post by LZ Bebbi »

Hi all! I've been using VS since version 5 back in 2002 and currently use version 7. Been editing a video (which went just fine) after capturing the material from a Sony Hi8 camcorder to DVD/mpeg format for editing.

All went well and I rendered a 1 hour 40 minute mpeg of the final edit with no problem and it plays just fine.

HOWEVER, with both VS7 and the demo version of Movie Factory 4.0, when I burn a DVD-R (I have an NEC ND-3520A DVD/CD burner) at either 8x or 6x, after each overlay I had edited in, there is a glitch in the playback. And ONLY after each overlay.

On my dedicated Toshiba DVD player (oldish, 2001) the glitches created some kind of jump-cut effect with digital streaking (blocky) for a fraction of a second. On my new NEC during playback, it's not as bad, more just a subtle jerky motion for about a half second.

Is it my burner or the software? The final edit plays fine on my computer as a straight mpg file, it's only when it's burned do I get the glitches.

I thought I'd try the demo of MF4 to see if it did a better job than the DVD burning portion of VS7, but it's about the same.

Any ideas? Try a slower burning speed? Buffers? I'm new to DVD burning so any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

LZ

I should mention that I have a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 and WinXP with two drives (60 and 120 GB).

Thanks in advance! :D

I can be offbase here, but it may look like a regular SmartRender artifact during editing. Some changes are not properly reported to the rendering engine and old versions stay untouched.

Did you use smart render?
If yes you could try re-rendering your MPG file with the option off. It often helped this guy here...

Share/Create Video File/Options/Use Smart renderer off
It will then render all again (get a coffee) and the glue will be much better applied.

I'm having the same problem but with Chapter Markers. Some kind of pixelating glitch about a half a second at every chapter marker that i add.
I'll try unselecting "smart render"

Thanks! I will too try rerendering without Smart Render.
