VS X8 getting "this program has stopped working" error

Post by jensenholmes »

I have used VideoStudio Pro X5 for a long time. I recently installed X8 trial to see if it would be faster at rendering video files.

It does appear to be faster when I rendered a .ts file into an mp4 without doing anything to it. However, I'm getting frequent "This program has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solution" errors using the program. I tried to load up a .ts video file in order to edit it and cut out the commercials, then render it to an mp4, which is what I used my pro X5 to do. But anything I hit the 'splice' (scissors) key or really do much of anything I get that error and X8 just closes.

I looked at the update/patch page and there are only 2 patches for X8, neither of which look related to this. Any suggestions? The program looks like a nice upgrade and I'd like to get it, but if it's not going to work that's obviously a problem.

Specs:
* I have a high end alienware gamer laptop with intel core i7 processor and lots of memory and an NVidia graphics card. It doesn't appear to be having any slowdowns or problems looking at the video files, it just suddenly, bam, crashes.

There are NO patches available for X8 we are still at the base release so I don't know what you were looking at.

The trial of X8 has many restrictions on what it can work with - unlike previous trials which were fully functional programmes Corel has decided to remove many functions from the X8 trial particularly in respect to which types of video it can edit and render so it is possible that it is those restrictions which are causing your errors.
