PSP X7 Materials Palette Reverts to previous colours.

Post by Loopy »

Helloi

I use the dropper to chose my colours for whatever I am working on and we'll use text as an example.

I will put the colours I want in the material pallet but when I click on the text button to add text it goes back to the previous colours.
I right click to choose the colours I had before and they aren't even there.

I just give up because its impossible to use the colours I want. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

On the materials palette there should be a small checkbox that says "All Tools" is this checked? I should point out that the checkbox appears checked (but disabled) when you have the eye-dropper tool selected. So first select the text tool, then look to see if the check box is checked. The checkbox determines if all tools use the same materials or if each tool gets its own set of materials.

Essentially I don't have this issue. That checkbox is checked and all tools use the same colors.

Another option, if that doesn't work. Is to select the colors while the text tool is active.

1) Select the text tool
2) hover your mouse over the foreground swatch
3) Press and hold the Ctrl key - your cursor will turn into and eyedropper. Sample the color you want.
4) Repeat for the background color.

You can also use the color picker dialog instead.

Oh thank you so much. I will have a look for that little box.

It must have gotten unchecked somehow because I had not had this issue before.

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks so much.

It's actually an intermittent bug that shows up now and then in other versions of PSP as well. I believe that it started in PSP8. Someone on the PSPUG forum posted this work-around for when it occurs:

1. Make sure that the text tool is active

2. Hover your cursor over the foreground swatch and press the Ctrl key. This will turn the cursor into a temporary eyedropper tool. Choose a foreground color from the image. To set the background color swatch, do the same thing but start with your cursor over the background swatch.

I do sort of remember it from a version awhile back...maybe X4 OR X5. That was a long time ago so couldn't remember what I did to correct it. I really appreciated your steps and have printed them off for when I get home from work.

Thanks again.

There's nothing you can do to correct the problem when it occurs. You'll go nuts trying because the swatch will revert to the last used text color no matter what you do. That's when the work-around comes in handy. The trick is remembering what to do when it happens the next time.
