X7 Problems

Post by jlynn72 »

I have had the new x7 for less than a month and it is hanging up and is so slow it is basically unusable when I try to use any brushes or the eraser. I have tried to figure out how to contact Corel but I am just going in circles. I have a computer that is less than a year old and have windows 8. I'm not trying to use this with a dinosaur. When I use brushes in the Topaz programs I use they work fine, this is a problem only with PSP X7. Any ideas

Save your workspace.
Restart X7 with the Shift key down (until you see the message saying you will return to the initial state).
Reload your workspace.

Try also to empty the cache file.

I'm using X7 SP2 (did you install SP2 ?) on Windows 8 and I don't see any slow erase or slow brush tool.

Have you registered your program with Corel?

I have installed X7 which I purchased back in January on a new computer and after registering it I received a mail from Corel No Reply which stated "In order to submit your question for PaintShop, you will require this support code: xxxxxxxxx Submit your question here.

The underlined section was a link to where I could contact Corel and get some help

So far with 2 copies of the program and installations on XP desktop, Win 7 desktop , Win 8.1 Desktop (three separate drives in the same desktop computer) and 2 win 7 laptops and a win 8.1 laptop . I have not had any installation problems nor any problems in running under Edit mode and with the basic setup (both 32 and 64 bit versions on the Win7 and Win8.1 computers). So it does work and works well.

How much Ram in the computer (I have 3 Gb in the Desktop)?
What brand is your computer?
Have you used any earlier versions of Paintshop Pro (PSP)?
Do you have access to another computer that you could try and install it on to see if there is a problem with your copy?
Is it a downloaded version or a CD version?

I did register and I son't see the support number on the email, so I'm not sure what it is. I have a HP Pavilion TouchSmart 23-f364 All-in-One Desktop PC , 64 bit, 8GB RAM. I had X4 and X6 in the past and din't have problems. The program was a online purchase and downloaded. Thanks for replying.

I have x7 and use windows 8 I have both 64 and 32 bit installed but only use the 32 as I was told to do. When I save a file and then try to open it in PSP I get this message: Unable to pen the file. Please verify the file is valid. they are all saved in png form or gif . Sometime it will let me rename the file and it will open and other times it won't. any help would be greatly appreciated. very frustrating!

How big are your files? I often use 500+ meg multi layered files and the brushes do slow down if you have large files and have a large sized brush. I have a new i5 computer with 8gig of ram and still get the slow performance on large files.

Try various sized files and see if there is any difference. It may be a computer issue rather than a PSP issue.

Most of the ones are 620x620 . I use them in different groups I am in. Like I said I can save some and open them and some not and they could be the same size. Thanks for answering me back..

Do you have another graphics program that can open your files.
Are the ones that fail consistently png files or persistently Gifs or a mixture of both.
If PSP is corrupting some files when it saves them then they will not open in other programs like Irfanview, or Paint (windows - Accessories).
You will need to record more details of when your files fail to open. Perhaps separate out the failed files into another folder.
Does PSP consistently fail to open these files - is it a permanent problem with these particular files or something that happens at random .
Will those failed files open with other versions of PSP?
Lots of detective work here to find the culprit.
