Unable to get acceptable performance. Why?

Post by rfrenkel123 »

I downloaded a 2 hour YouTube video in relatively HD and was able to edit it without issue in Windows Movie Maker. However the video and audio became out of sync towards the end of the video. The last section was 20 minutes, so I created that as a separate MP4 clip in Movie Maker and wanted to edit it to resynchronize in Video Studio X8 (downloaded trial version).

The tools in VS X8 are wonderful but unfortunately it hardly worked on my laptop which has a dual processor and 8GB of RAM. Resource Monitor showed plenty of spare CPU and RAM but even switching from one tab of VSX8 to another required doing other work for a while. I separated the audio track and moved it in various directions relative to the video but the playback was so awful and broken up and inconsistent that it was difficult to see what I was doing. I chopped out a 7 minute section to work on, but that made no difference. Finally I saved that as MPEG to see if what I had done had worked. But the resulting video had lots of pixelation and was basically unwatchable, especially compared to the perfect 20 minute clip I started with.

This looks like a resource issue to me, but my machine substantially exceeds the minimum and recommended requirements. Would love to be able to use VSX8 but clearly need to figure out what is going on. Appreciate any suggestions.

What are the properties of the downloaded video? I don't know what you mean by "relatively HD".
Can you provide a link to the video on youTube?

To get the Properties, right click on the original video downloaded from YouTube in the Video Studio timeline. Then select Properties and copy them all here, please, or take a screen grab of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment.

Can you also explain a little about why you chose to first edit it in Windows Movie Maker rather than directly in Video Studio. By the way, do you have an earlier version of VS or is the X8 Trial the first time you have tried the program?

I have a two minute snippet of the video that I tried to upload here without luck. That plays fine in Media Player but breaks up terribly in VSX8. Any saved editing then preserves these glitches.

Thanks, I know the audio is out of sync. I downloaded VSX8 to fix that but can't get that clip to play decently on it. That's why this post. It's completely unable to play the clip without major glitches let alone being able to edit it.

What do you mean by "play decently"? Using X8 Ultimate, I added the clip to the timeline and there is no problem when playing the video, there are no glitches at all. The only thing out of order is the audio but that is of course already in the source video. I also used X7 as well as other video programs and there is no problem.

The woman crossing to the dais leaves a trial of ghosts and is jerky. That's just loading the clip and pressing "play".

I would suspect a hardware limitation but this laptop has an i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM, NVIDIA Quadro FX with 1GB of RAM. Seems like it should me able to handle this.

I'm clueless.

Actually, I just need to get this done. If I post the 20 minute clip, do you think someone could sync the audio? I can then splice it in using Windows Move Maker which has no problems.

Here's what I get when I load the clip onto the timeline and generate an MP-4. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2vLCp ... sp=sharing

This is also what I get when I press play in VSX8. Enjoy :)

Hi

The original sample plays ok for me, I do not see any problems as your “jstreet snippet Corel”

No trial of ghosts, the lady walks across the stage and looks ok.

Sample JStreet2015_snippet

The audio appears to be out of sync by 20 frames / ish.

Split the audio from the video clip and move the audio clip to the right by 20 frames.

Fortunately the out of sync seems the same throughout the length of the clip.

The problem seems to be a compatibility issue with my specific hardware. I downloaded PowerDirector 13 and had no problem with the snippet including syncing and saving.

I guess that's what trials are for. I'd be happy to work with Corel if they want to look into the issue further, but I can't use it.
