"painting a scanned drawing in PI10

Post by gismaplady »

Hello,
I'd like to know if there is an easy way to "paint" a scanned in pencil drawing in PI? Basically I need to know how to take the pencil lines and make them objects so I can fill them in with color or patterns. Is there a tutorial out there? Thanks for any suggestions.

Scan your pencil drawn image into PI.

You may have to use the Adjust\Brightness Contrast Feature to darken your pencil lines.

Change the View large enough so that you can see the white areas between the pencil lines.

Go to the Selection Tool and click on the little triangle at the bottom lower right of the Icon and select Magic Wand Tool. Click with the mouse in an open area on your drawing, and marching ants will surround the empty area.

Note: the area must be enclosed or the ants will get out, so you may have to paint or clone holes closed.

Then go to the Fill tool and fill the area with the color of your choice, gradients, or patterns. Repeat this process.

You may also be able to use the paintbrush tool, with attributes set to 'colorize', and can also select a texture. Tool panel also lets you select either a solid color or variable, with variations in hue, brightness and saturation. I use this to color old B/W pictures with some really nice results.
