Hey Hey its Gripps. Lets talk Blu ray in x8

Hi everyone

First of, I don't work for Corel. I have access to Corel YouTube for uploading video's and reply to comments, this is on a volunteer basis.

Corel offers me free software, given to me one month before release. I also receive documentation on some of the new features. It does not cover all the new updates or what has been removed.

In my review on X8, I mention that for Blu-ray you could buy a plugin. This caused a bit of a stir, since this was freely available in earlier versions. At the time I did not know the reasoning behind the removal.I noticed the removal of the Blu-ray option and replaced with the plugin. I felt it was worth mentioning there was still an option if you required Blu-ray.

I have received many inquiries since, asking why now, we need to buy a plugin. I read the thread here on my review X8, also mentioning this issue. I asked my contact in Corel on Blu-ray, this was their reply.
Hi Bart:

I touched base with the team and read the string in the forum. The background was very helpful thanks.

Our research showed us that Blu-ray burning was really only used by a small portion of our users. We made the decision to refocus our resources on adding items that we thought would be of greater value to the overall customer base. Of course, knowing that some users do wish to burn Blu-rays, we continue to offer the functionality as an affordable add-on.

It's always a balance to determine where to devote our resources to give everyone the maximum benefit. In this case, the reality was that the overwhelming majority of our users were not using the Blu-ray burning features. Since including royalty-bearing items can be costly, we made the decision to redirect our resources to third-party plug-ins and content where we thought we could add more value.

I hope this info is helpful.

Hopefully this will give you a better understanding for their reasoning on Blu-ray option.

Cheers,
Gripps

Hi Gripps

Makes sense (to me at least). I use my existing equipment to render to AVCHD for use on my Blu-Ray player (players are relatively cheap these days) and I don't really want to go to the expense of a burner and BR disks. I use a SD card as my transfer medium.

Keep up the good work. You are my first "port of call" in times of trouble. :?
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Welcome Gripps to the forum, strange you are at your first msg here after so many years.
I think they made reasonable choice, as now X8 is loaded with NB stuff and they have better control over the BR licenses they have to give.
Tnx for the tube videos.

Thanks Asik, I created account years ago, just can't remember any of the details.

I agree, I rarely use Blu-ray and rather have extra FX for the price. As someone mention on my FB,
Ed Dee: Most Blu-Ray burners come with software so most users will not need to purchase a plug in. Note you can burn in the AVCHD format to a DVD.
