OK, so I've tested Video Studio X8 on 3 PCs.
- On the Win 7 system, everything works fine, the GPU immediately takes over for FAST rendering.
- On the Win 8 PC I had to add Corel Video Studio X8 to the list in the Nvidia Control Panel, then set the Preferences to Enable Hardware Encoding / Decoding the same way as in Win 7 but no use.
- On the Win 8.1 PC the dedicated video card automatically used, no need to set anything in Nvidia, only the Preferences in VS X8, but the program still wouldn't use the dedicated card.
On the Win 7 system it made a HUGE difference in rendering speed, and the card on this PC (I'm using now) is much more powerful, but the program just wouldn't use it.
Any solution on HOW to make Video Studio X8 to use the power of the dedicated card under Win 8.1 (and Win-8) like it works in W-7?
Thank you!

Just a visual demo. The GPU (NVIDIA GeForce 980m with 8 GB memory) has NO activity at all, despite the settings in Preferences for Hardware Encoding / Decoding.

The GPU is used to accelerate encoding, not rendering. Rendering is done by the CPU.

Well, in Windows 7 the GPU is clearly active and takes over the rendering, which makes it 2X (or more) faster! I don't know how, but that's exactly what I'm looking for. IF the GPU took over the rendering, I believe it would be MUCH better and faster.Natal wrote:The GPU is used to accelerate encoding, not rendering. Rendering is done by the CPU.
But, if this is the "normal" thing, then I just wish I managed to figure it out just HOW did the GPU took over in Win 7!

It's a different GPU, different drivers...
For example I found out that in X7, and nVidia, installing drivers newer than a certain 'age' will disable the hardware encoding. Maybe is something similar in your case?
See here my findings for X7:
