Correctly Resizing Images

Post by papayakiller »

I have PE 8 and can not figure out how to resize images correctly. In the overview of pictures I click on the pic that I want to resize then right click and go to Convert Image Files. A box pops up that I'm going to include here. Is this the only place to change the size? I'm only given one box for the resize and when I put in 320 the image is converted to 320x213 which does not look accurate to me. I want it to be 320x240. The images start out at 720x480 so they aren't being converted right.

The conversion is correct (and, yes, this is the only place to change the size).

"320" is 44.44% of 720; 44.44% of 480 is "213."
Or another way to look at it, the ratio of 480 to 720 is 2/3; the ratio is 213 to 320 is also 2/3.
The ratio of 240 to 320 is 3/4.

When resizing an image, PE always retains the aspect ratio.

Turn off the Aspect Ratio feature and put the size in manually.

Aspect Ratio option exists in PhotoImpact, not in PhotoExplorer. See Convert Box image above. There are only two either/or "Resample" options: % of original size - or Pixels (Maximum dimensions).

The "Aspect Ratio" seen in the box refers only to any necessary custom cropping needed when printing the image.
