VideoStudio Ultimate X8 can't install

Hi

Been using Pinnacle Studio 12.1 for years and have it on my new Windows 7 64 bit system.
So when I saw VideoStudio Ultimate X8 I thought I would give it a go.
Downloaded the trial and started to install, however while it is trying to install C++ 2008 Redistributable it fails and ends.

Got onto Corel and was told to download and merge some registry entries and then try and install in safe mode, this failed just the same.

I get this error message:

Welcome to the forums.

I doubt that I can help, I would have thought installing via Safe Mode would have worked.

I have installed the trial a few times over the past few weeks with no problems, trial period now expired.
I was about to compare trial file sizes but deleted the file.

Have you downloaded the trial again, just in case you have a corrupt file.

Try
Uninstall that “C++ 2008 Redistributable”
Create a new user account having Admin rights
Delete old setup files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel
Try installing again –

Just now I have removed everything about it as I was kind of upset LOL

Hi

Re Downloaded it, went properties and set to unblocked.
Removed all trace of last install attempt.
The wnet safe mode and ran install and got the same error.

No other issues on my system.
Looks like I am stuck with Pinnacle

Hi Mike

I don’t understand why you are having problems installing the trial.
Is your Operating System up to date as regards Windows Updates.
View the update history are there any errors?

Malware, some called Search Protect , Browser Protect , Babylon, Conduits can cause many problems. Usually installed without our knowledge when downloading free software.
I think Search Protect actually affected Windows Updates.
View your Programs and Features for any unusual programs?

It really has to be something on the pc that’s affecting installation?

As far as I know all is ok, I run Kaspersky internet securities, MailwareBytes and Spyware doctor on demand so should be ok.
I'll check out the items you suggest and report back.

Gutted did as suggested and found a few updates to install, did a clean sweep for spyware (none found) and tried to install with the exact same error Don't understand as everything else works fine and I have installed other stuff before and since without issues???

Fast running out of ideas.
There was a problem actually running/starting the trial, internet connection issues.
Turning the internet off allowed the program to run.

Don’t suppose the trial is looking at the internet during installation?
Try turning the internet off. Then try installing.
Now that’s clutching at straws……..

Think I have traced it to a MS issue.

Reading this thread has promoted me to report a similar issue.

I was getting error -9.

I was about to reboot and try again, but decided to run Advanced System Care instead. This did something and it eventually installed on the next attempt.

I had just removed VideoStudio X7 and left the user data, if that helps.

I eventually managed to get Corel support to help me.
Via their facebook page.
I had to send in several log and report files from my system and I was advised accordingly:

However, I am still investigating the implications of removing these applications despite the assurances of support that there would be none, I have to make sure other vital applications will not be affected.

Interesting... I can't recall which version was installed with VideoStudio X8, but a version of C++ Redistributable was installed, so I would suggest that it is possible that you had a clash caused by an old version present on your computer.

It seems odd that VX8 wants to install 2005C++, very old?

This may be of interest, Corel offer both a 32 bit and 64 bit version of their program. Of course I have been trying to install the 64bit version, support asked me to try installing the 32 bit version and this went without a problem, I wonder why that would be?
