Joining Lines or Other Vector Objects

Post by Eugbug »

I want to connect lines to other vector shapes. According to help, It should be possible to hold down CTRL and drag a node from one contour over a node in another contour to join both contours.
You can join the start point or end point node of one contour with the start or end point nodes of another to form one contour.

· To join the nodes, press <Ctrl> while dragging one node over the other. When the two overlap, the word “Join” appears. Release the mouse button.

· To join two starting or ending nodes, select two starting or ending nodes and press <Ctrl> + <J> or right-click the image and choose Edit > Join Select.
However PSP only allows node editing of one object at a time (it doesn't work if more than one object is selected), so it's not possible to see the nodes in the destination object and "join" doesn't appear.

I'm using PSP 7

You cannot join two separate objects. They have to be individual contours inside of the same vector object if you wish to use Joining. There is, however, a script for that. There is a script that comes with PSP called "Vector Merge Selected."

We use the "VectorMergeSelected" script to merge two or more vector objects into a single object. Each individual object becoming a separate contour inside the new vector object. You can then join the individual contours as described in the help files. This also means that all of the shapes take on the style of the first shape selected.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately scripts only seem to be supported in V8 and later.
The reason I want to join objects is so that I can fill them with a colour. Other than flattening to a raster image and using the paint bucket tool, is there any way of doing this?

I don't have version 7 so I am unusure.

If you select a contour with the pen in edit mode then you go "Objects -> Edit -> Copy" select the second object and go "Objects -> Edit -> Paste" it should paste a copy of the contour from the first object into the second object. But only if those options exist in 7.

"Objects -> Edit -> Copy" or Objects -> Edit -> Paste" isn't an available option in this version.
In the end I just drew the object using the point to point line style. It would have been nice if I could have used arcs, circles etc. though.
Thanks for the help!
